Title: Mala ignores my new joystick, but Mame likes it...
Post by: Dreamwriter on June 30, 2006, 12:26:51 am
I'm having problems here.  Mala was working fine with my old joystick, but I just bought a pair of UltraStick 360's, and no matter what I do Mala ignores them.  Windows sees it fine (and you can control the crosshair in the control panel), it works great in Mame, but in Mala it does...nothing.  In fact, with the joystick plugged in Mala automatically disables the "Use Joystick" option.  And reenabling doesn't fix the problem, nor calibrating.

Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks...

Wait a few days for the next release.

Swindus has made some improvements in this area. I don't know where he finds the time?

Refer his work in progress page: http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/wip.html (http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/wip.html)

I figured it out - even though it was the only controller in the system, I had to tell Windows that that joystick was the "Preferred Device for older programs".  Did that, and suddenly Mala was happy.

Yes, that was my idea too. MaLa is using the mmsystem.dll and not DirectInput for the joysticks.

Good old thrustmaster - there wasn't a game they weren't willing to make a custom control for. I recall that they were all gung ho for making a custom pinball controller for our 3D Ultra pinball game. It was designed to attatch to either side of your keyboard. I felt it wasn't sturdy enough and told them so, but they made it any way. Then someone came up with the bright idea of making a gamepad for a PC and we threw all of our efforts into supporting those.

Yep, another bit of useless trivia...  :blah:

Ack - got the new Mala (RC7) and this one doesn't work with my joystick at all.  Even though Windows and Mame sees the joystick fine, Mala's test screen doesn't show any response, and Mala keeps unchecking the "Use Joystick" box.  Regardless of whether I set the joystick to analogue, 4-way or 8-way.  Anyone else seeing the same behavior?

I have a simular problem with my arcade music box, since Blitz only supported a 16 button joystick.

Since I wrote a Autohotscript script, that utility 32 buttons and 4 axies, and send it to a control window. This way I overwrote the limits.

My cab have more than 12 joystick input, since I have a GPWiz 49. The 2PL would not work, since it wired into buttons.

Think about some users may use joystick buttons as a movement....
