hi y'all
just wondered if anyone here uses any of the joysticks from Ultimarc...
I'm tempted to get a couple of j-sticks (can't decide between ball and oval top though), and I'd like to hear from people that have used them before...
cheers

I have a couple of ball-top J-Sticks and I think they're great...
BUT I haven't used them yet :D
I just like the chrome stick & red ball top. Some people say the spring is perhaps a bit light, but in a recent post Andy mentions how to stiffen them up. The ones I have seem stiffer than the sticks used in the Sega Naomi cabs anyway.
Anyone else any opinions?

well, you've convinced me ;D
I was originally gonna go for a couple of Happs Supers - until I read that they don't operate in 'true' 4-way mode (you can still physically move the stick into the corners)
ball tops it is then ;) (which i slightly prefered anyway)

I have got a couple of the oval top J Sticks
the 4 way operation is great after the dial has been moved a few times (its a bit stiff at first)
I would agree maybe the spring action is a bit light for 4 player games but they come into their own on games such as street fighter
and Ultimarc service seems second to none (plus I am a uker and made a change not having to import stuff)

right, cheers, definatly gonna get a couple now!
just waiting on an email from Happ, need to know GP

Yeah I'm a UK'er too :)
I bought 1 J-Stick with a plan to use it as a dedicated 4-way. I was going to use Supers as my 8-way sticks...but I changed my mind and ordered another J-Stick.
Also, the buttons from Ultimarc are great. I actually think the microswitches used in them (Honeywell) are better than the Cherry switches used in Happ's.
Be carefuly of Happ's prices as by the time you've added duty, VAT & delivery it seems to cost twice as much as you think :(

I started out with a pair of Happ Supers, but I was pretty disapointed with the performance in "true" 4-way mode. I decided to build a second controller (it's amazing how many friends will ask you to build one for them ;D ) and I went with two J-Sticks this time. What a difference! Karate Champ is 100% playable now, as are all other 4-way games. The changeover from 4-way to 8-way takes about 10 seconds. I was skeptical when I received the sticks, but no longer, they really are quite nice.

yeah, but, if you order from the website, and live in the UK, the order will get send to their UK branch for processing.

The olny downside I've heard is that some people complain about the excessive travel in 4 way mode. That's the only bad thing I've heard of them.

I LOVE MY J-STICK. I'm thinking about replacing all of the joysticks on my various CP's with j-sticks. Sure, it won't be the most authentic feel when I play street fighter, etc, but, to tell you the truth, I like the feel of the j-stick better.

I second that. Of course that'll be true of ANY non-dedicated 4-way stick.

I have a t-stick and really like the stiff feel and short throw.
