Title: Do finished Mame cabinets ever go on sale at auction houses?

and how are they usually priced if they do?

I've seen them at the superauctions in Dallas. The first auction I went to a crappy mame cab with a keyboard hanging out of it sold for $1600 about a year and half ago.  :dizzy:  Since then it has been a steep decline in prices. Even the real nice ones are only fetching $300-600.  There are a lot of 39-1 cabs sold in Dallas which sinks the prices even lower.

Thinkin about saving myself the headache of building another with limited time and just buying one thats either almost finished or just needs a few fine touches.  I just dont want to do all the cutting and sanding and painting and screwing.  I dont mind slapping in a coin door, computer or a marquee though.

Why don't you just get an empty instead of building one from scratch?

Im with peale.
both of my mame cabinets were neogeo cabinets. You can get one of those with a sucky game in it for $150 or less  and gut it and sell the gameboard and marquee and end up with a cabinet ready to be mamed for $120 or so.
Defintaely would not build one from scratch...
I built my driving cabinet from scratch to save having to buy a san fran rush cabinet for $800..after its done (still not 100% complete after 5 years) I should have just bought a cabinet instead of building one...saves you $$$ but in time it costs you more $$$...haha

Seen Plenty of ready to be MAMED cabinets on ebay.au

Unfortunately shipping to my address proves cost prohibitive...

There seems to be less and less convertable cabinet's out there..

Me thinks this hobby is getting popular..

About a year ago, I saw an extremely crappy machine made from a Namco 5-in-1. The cab itself was falling apart, and it had a marquee that had been printed on plain paper. It sold for around $900.

I'm going to an auction today, I'll have to take note of what they sell for.

But, I'm with Peale. Just buy an empty or nearly empty cab. Easiest conversion in the world.

The last auction we were at, all the multicade cabs were going for 1100 + for the 39 in 1. It was not MAME and I think that some of the Auction companies have issues selling "MAME" cabinets.

Anyway the guy I went with bought one of the 39 in 1 cabs. He got it for 1100 and it was a Dynamo with a 25 in monitor (Was a Michael Jackson Moonwalker  :P)
