I'm doing a Taito cocktail cab. The original panel had player 1 and 2 buttons on the Player 1 side. This seems a bit daft to me, and I was going to put one button on each player's panel.
But I don't think I've ever seen a cocktail cab where each player has their own start button. Any reason why? Any reason why I should not give player 2 their own button instead of giving both to player 1?

Typically on a cocktail there is only one coin mech on one side.
And he who controls the "coin", also controls the number of players.
But if you are just MAMEing it.....then you could do as you wish.
"coin" button on each side, and a "start" button on each side.

If you're using an IPAC, it would make sense to keep those two buttons together for quick access to the "esc" function.

The only reason the 2p would need access to their start button is if you are playing a game with continues. Games on cocktail cabinets have an alternating play setup. I guess you would need you own start button if you were playing with a jerk who refused to hit 2p start. ;D

Keeping in mind that you can remap the escape function. When a few friends of mine escaped out of a game of Metal Slug after hitting their start buttons I decided to move it to another button.
