When I first read the title I thought it was a day where everyones supposed to yell serenity now everytime something midly upseting happens....don't ask me why I thought that.

Anyways, I already have a copy of firefly and serenity, both of which are great.

I have them too.  I'll rebuy them and return them a few days later.

I am fairly sure Joss Whedon sold his soul to get that movie made. ;D I sure am glad he did though.

As to fighting for the show, it was tried with the show Angel and did nothing. That fight was even talked about on the Today show, I believe. If you all are fans then you know what I am talking about.

I already own my copy, and buying and returning won't do anything since they will show sales one day, but then also show a ton of returns for the next month. That would basically show them that people bought the movie and hated it so much that they took it back.

So it failed with one show so you give up?  Both the Drew Carey show and Family Guy came back from being cancelled because of fan support so it is possible.  Personally I feel the fans have already won since Serenity was made, but if I remember right Joss Whedon (or whatever his name is) said he wanted to make a trilogy of movies out of it, which would be pretty cool.  It seems like Serenity made enough money that it should be possible for that to happen.

*edit*
I just saw that the fans were able to bring Futurama back too, although the new episodes aren't supposed to air until 2008.

Unfortunately, money is the main driver here. Sci-fi shows cost ALOT of money to make/produce. If fans show support for a cartoon, it is no sweat for a station to pick it back up, since it is so cheap to make in comparison to live-action. Same thing for a sticom. Even if fan support is phenomenal for a high-budget show, if the ratings aren't there to match the finances, the fans are fighting a losing battle. I am more interested in bringing the show back more than another movie (although another movie would be totally schweet.)
It was truly unfortunate that Firefly had to be on FOX. If it would have been on Sci-Fi, it would still be on. I still cannot understand first, why Joss Whedon didn't try to get the show onto Sci-Fi, and secondly, why didn't Sci-Fi pick the show up???

Fan support brought back Star Trek (TOS) and La Femme Nikita as well.

Probably because Serenity isn't necessarily "Sci-Fi" in the popular sense more than the best kind of science fiction. Apart from the drug they use to "corpsify" people, they don't really use any 'magic' technologies to save the day in the last five minutes of the episode, a la "inverting the warp field to negate the effect of the tachyon particles on the proton stream".  :banghead:

Pity the movie was a mish-mash.

...ummm, they fly a spaceship, go from planet to planet, and it is the future and earth is gone. How much more do you need to qualify for sci-fi. jeez!

Most of the crap called "Sci-Fi" on TV today does this. By contrast, I do believe I called Serenity:

the best kind of science fiction

the sad thing is they ruined the firefly series by releasing the movie serenity.... I'd love to see firefly continued on with the potential wich it had, but killing off crucial members in the series for the movies sake will only ruin what's to come next , what are they gonna replace the preacher and Wash with Vance and Coy Duke and pretend nothing happened?

Oh please, this is Joss "can't have happy couples" Whendon you're talking about. The moment they started talking about having a kid you *must* have known either Xandar or Kenya had to die...  >:(

Whestley Whindon-Price spent half the series having no idea what they did at the facility, but come the movie apparently he was the one who freed the slayer??  :banghead:

Now, Giles being killed was certainly a surprise. What with the whole "I used to be a Nazi concentration camp commander" thing hanging over the series, I thought they might have kept him around to explore that a bit more.

Wait, hang on a minute, the characters from Angel and Buffy had different names in the Serenity series didn't they? Meh, they were the same stereotypes anyway.
