I just took the ball out of my Suzo Trackball and am going to replace it with an Electric Ice one. I noticed that the electric ice weighs about 40% less than the white ball in the suzo. This trackball is mounted at and angle. Do you think there will be a performance difference with the lighter trackball?
Thanks!
-
Not really a performance difference as such..... It is lighter and does spin for less time when you give it a hard spin. BUT! this is countered by fitting the high resolution encoder wheels. So the net result is that the cursor travel on a hard spin is about the same and you get the bonus of much better resolution at controlled speeds.
I love my kit.... although it does feel different to the original ball, and takes some getting used to. Once you get used to it you really won't notice the fact that it's lighter.

High resolution encoder wheels? Where do I get those?
-
The high resolution encoder wheels are not for Suzo trackballs but for Imperial/Betson (Happ ???) trackballs AFAIK, which is a shame really !
-
Has anybody actually tried fitting them to a Suzo? The wheels were originally sold as being only for Betson trackballs. Then somebody tried fitting them to a Happ, and whaddaya know, they worked! I have not verified, but I am 99% sure they'll work in a Wico TB as well. I believe Wico manufactured the trackballs for Atari, so they may fit those as well. Not including the Missile Command / Football 4" units, those used a cup-shaped encoder that would definately not be compatible.
They may work fine on a Suzo, we just need somebody with a Suzo/Ultimarc TB to make the experiment.

You are correct, Sir! :)
They work fine in a WICO 3" and the 2.25" Imperials as well. If the Suzo's use the same plastic encoder wheel used by just about every other arcade TB out there, the high-res encoders will probably work with those as well.

I might be willing to try it with my Suzo 2.25. So where do you get them?
-
At the same place that sold you the Electric Ice Trackball I guess ;) ;)
Randy ? ;)
What are the dimensions of those wheels ? I can make some pictures if needed. My Suzo is a 2,25" too.
I can also do a testdrive of course if Randy is willing to send me a set for testing :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I can say they are worth every penny. Randy has built a fine piece of equipment here. The extra money was well spent to upgrade.

Anybody have the base dimensions on the 2.25" Electric Ice?
-
Appears as though a 2.25" Electric Ice as a whole unit doesn't actually exsist...Only a 3".
A 2.25" Electric ice lighting and replacement trackball KIT are available but only as an add on to an exsisting 2.25" trackball unit of a different brand. Am I reading this correctly?

EDIT: Oh I think I get it now...If I want to get the whole works form Randy I have to go with his Imperiel 2.25" and then the electric Ice 2.25" upgrade kit if so desired. However, I would still like to know the dimensions of the 2.25 Imperial before ordering!!!!!!!!!!! I know I keep going on about a 2.25 but the space neede for the 3" installation is dang near like 6" X 6". Don't have that much room left on my CP!!

DK,
Are you the fine gentleman who has been patiently waiting for measurements on the 2.25" trackball?
If so, sorry for the delay. I wanted to do a nice drawing of it, but haven't gotten to it yet.
The 2.25" trackball measures 5" square, except that, when viewed in it's proper orientation, the upper left and lower right corners have a 2.5" radius on them.
I can do these in Electric ICE as well. They just haven't hit the site yet.

Please don't make a fancy drawing for my benefit. I think I have 5 inches left on my CP...Thats all I needed to know man! Done deal! I'm gonna get the 2-1/4" (ICED BABY)!! How could ya come this far and not ICEit? Package this with the turbo twist II and steering wheel and my CP is a wrap.
