I have a deal in the works for a original Street Fighter cab. It has been converted to a six button control panel. Everything is there, as far as the hose hook ups, on the pcb. I'm looking to restore it to the original 2 button configuration. Does anyone know where I can find the buttons? I know it was faulty hardware and had to be adjusted frequently. That's why it's so hard to find. Operators switched them out and trashed them. I might even resort to fabricating my own. I have searched the internet for months.:banghead: I can't find any info, on the buttons. If anyone knows where to find them or can lead me in the right direction, contact me immediately. Thanks!!!!
-
OK, I'm going to bite ... but only because you reference SOTL (have a good story from when I met Sir Anthony H) and TL in your avatar/tagline ...
WTH are you talking about ??? Hoses ? Pneumatics ?
Cheers.
-
The original Street Fighter had two large "buttons" that you would hit to make the on screen character punch or kick. The harder you hit these buttons the harder the character would hit.
You can see them in the below picture.

Got an education today (can you tell my experience predates SF??) ... thanks, guys.
Cheers.

HJas anyone even seen these controls, in the last decade and a half. I sure haven't :-\
-
Never seen 'em in the flesh. I'd try RGVAC/RGVAM.
-
Last time I saw them was a little over 10 years ago at Golfland in Garden Grove, CA. They've since torn that place down so you probably won't be able to find them there. I'm guessing you'll have to build these yourself.
-
Hi I tried to find this info out before, dead end :banghead:
What made things harder was I lived in the UK!
I know they were a dangerous design and even stories of people breaking legs jumping off higher places to hit the button harder :dizzy:
But for any retro SF fan its something that appeals to us!! If I could find some originals or even designs for them it would be worth a go, and recreating it.
I see them a few times on ebay (us) and email the people asking for sizes, materials etc... but none ever reply back.
-
could you adapt these somehow?
You may be able to hook something up.... ?

For what it's worth, they also had the Captain Commando machine where you had to punch the pad really hard. I liked that one.. but about every third person that played would be "*THUD!* Owww! Oh my god! My wrist! Ooowwww!"
You sure that wasn't Sonic Blastman? Sonic Blastman had a big pad that you had to punch to destroy things like semis, asteroids, and thugs. I played it at a go-kart track in Branson, MO when I was about 14. Killed my friggin' wrist. All of the scenes in the arcade game were turned into bonus stages in the SNES side-scrolling beat em' up version.
To this day, I've NEVER played or seen an SF1 machine. Played it via emulation and pretty much figured out that if not for the original button gimmick, nobody would have remembered it. I just wish there was a way to correct the unresponsive controls. You never know if you're going to do a Dragon Punch or throw a fireball, if you manage to accomplish either...
-
Yeah I played the original with those crazy buttons. Man did I suck at it. Tired my arm out pretty damn quick.
I also remember seeing someone throw a fireball. Back then, in that game, this was a "secret" move. I was barely able to throw one myself. By the time I could launch one corectly, I'd be pummelled to death.

Found 'em! NOS pads and joystick bezels! ;D

sweet only took 3 years, was it worth the wait?
and NOS? wow, that stuff sat unopened for like 25 years?
-
It was definitely worth the wait! I grew up playing it. It's the nostalgia that drove me to find it. SFI came from an era where you'd see Ninja Gaiden, Freedom Fighter, Rampage, and other awesome 80's games in the arcade. You don't see this game ever. Period. They've disappeared because they're so big and obtrusive. No one wanted to wrestle with the gigantic cabs, so they trashed 'em. I love the fact that it's a monster of a machine. I'm tall and can't get a good stance on a Dynamo. This sucker has plenty of room. One more big ass machine to add to the collection. Damn, I'm running out of room!!!
-
wow, congrats!
i used to play this in "Jenny's Arcade" in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, UK.
after a few plays, i had to resort to using my elbow on the punch pads... :dunno
-
Neat cab, but the game is ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. :dunno
cool find though. Hard to believe you found all that, NOS.
-
pics when assembled please?
-
Yeah, the game is ------. Like I said, it's the nostalgia. I'll get some pics, once those dirty controls are cleaned and everything is assembled.
-
Interesting..... never seen these before.
I'd like to see how these are integrated with the game pcb.
How the pneumatics control the sensitivty on the pcb and all that.
Does this use a totally different pcb from the usual microswitch/button version?
-
Yeah, the game is ******. Like I said, it's the nostalgia. I'll get some pics, once those dirty controls are cleaned and everything is assembled.
dont try to bypass the language filter. (I edited it out)

Should start a Restoration thread dude. Don't forget LOTS of pics!

Stop with the holier than thou bull cleveland steamer. Your eight year old is playing MKII.
-
Me letting my 10 year old nephew play mkII with his mothers permission isn't against the rules. I was just trying to be friendly and let you know about the rules, of course you acting like chad isn't against the rules either . :)

2. Don't work around the profanity filter. People from all walks of life visit here, and I want all to feel welcome. If you post something and the board automatically censors the word, don't use a misspelling, "g33k-sp3@k", or f-unny spa-cing to get around the auto-filter. It's not a contest to see how clever you can be in defeating the auto-censor. If the properly spelled word is censored, don't find a way around it please.

I'd like to keep the forum family friendly - thanks!

That was a joke, Malenko :burgerking:

no biggie :)
have you started a restore thread yet?
-
Hey man, before you install those NOS pads in, maybe you could run them by Dave from Ramcontrols to see if he can make more of them easily. I'd love to have a set and would pay a pretty penny for it. If nothing else, then maybe you could have a backup set for yourself?
-
At the very least, I could measure them up, take tons of photos and spec out all of the odd components so I can make the reproduction controller in the future. :-)
I wouldn't mind doing it, but I'm a little slammed with my existing projects, so it might take a few days to note down all the specifics. If anything, just taking the time to document this controller would be a worthwhile endeavor.
To be honest, I don't even remember these things.... I never got into the SF series, so that might have something to do with it. LOL

Not yet. I'm still working on a 6 player X-Men cab project. It's been a huge undertaking. I will, once I get around to it.

Thanks for the heads up. These controls are most definitely hard to come by.

I could send one of the units to you. Once you have some time away from your other projects, let me know. PM me your address and I can get them out to you. I can find out how much it would be to mail it, if need be.
-
That's awesome dude. Can you also scan the joystick bezels before you apply them? It would be cool if Dave makes new controllers, but I think the market would only be like 4-9 people max...
Oh well, I can still dream.
-
I have two sets of control bezels. I could drop those in with the controller I send to Dave. I don't have a scanner. :( Even if there are only a few people who would buy the repro controls, it would still be worth it to preserve this rare piece of arcade history. You never know who might need a set down the road.

Hi, I'm new to the site :D. In fact I signed up after reading this thread. I too have been searching for the controls for years :banghead:. I dont know why I only found this thread now when I've spent hours searching online. Seeing the photo of the controls gave me a massive buzz! :notworthy: Thanks for uploading it. I'm wondering if it would be possible to get more photos and or measurements for the parts? I am only too happy to compensate you for your time. I found the original patent for the mechatronics so here is the link for any and all interested. This is for the general patent info http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4850591.html (http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4850591.html) ,and contains this link http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4850591.pdf (http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4850591.pdf) to the pdf. I know the topic is old and chances are slim to none to that I'll even get a reply however I am extremely thankful for the photo and hope the restoration has, is going smoothly. :applaud:
