Here's the situation. I bought some new Champion windows last year. I took advantage of the 12 months same as cash. The contract is done through AIG (American General). I've been paying it off and June 2 was the termination date for the offer. I sent the last payment in through my bank's online bill payment service mid May, as I did all the others. AIG doesn't except electronic payments (wonder why) so the bank always issues a check. I just got back from vacation and start going through the mail. I see a statment from AIG and figure it shows my pay off. Nope it says I didn't make the last payment and I now owe $450 in back interest. I've confirmed with my bank that the payment was sent just fine. I've called AIG and they pretty much said TS. I've never had a payment not get to where it's going and I've done online bill paying for the last 6 years. I smell a rat.
I'm looking for advice on what I can do. I'm not sure who I can even complain to. Any help out there? Thanks.

I think I might sit down and talk with the manager at your bank. He might be able to give AIG proof that the bank actually sent the payment. Good luck. You must be pretty angry.

kingflynn has likely provided the best course of action.
I would get a statement from my bank regarding when the payment was dispatched and the fact that it was rejected.
You are dealing with a financial institution and the best course of action is having another financial institution assist in pleading your case.

Yes I've talked to my bank once already and I'm going to call them back to intervene but AIG's attitude didn't sound to promising. What ticks me off is it's like unless all payments are sent registered mail they can just lose or throw away a payment and say the mail never got to them.

I don't think they'll have leg to stand on if you can provide documentation that the bank did send the check.

Well I opened a case with my bill paying service and they are going to contact AIG to try and get it resolved. They seem like they are going to do everything they can. I then had to contact AIG again to give permision for a third party to contact them on my behalf. The CSR sure didn't seem to like that.
