Title: Is my childhood memory false?
Post by: The 80s Man on June 14, 2006, 12:44:02 am
The last time I played Battlezone on a real cabinet, I must have been 7 years old. And I could have sworn that the real arcade version is in Real 3D. I mean that your left eye sees a slightly different image then your right eye giving you a true 3d image while you play. Is my memory real or is it some kind of distorted false memory from my childhood? Please help Ive searched everywhere and I can't find any mention of Battlezone producing separate images for the right and left eyes of the viewer. And if by chance my memory is correct then that would bring me to the question of, why hasn't anyone built a way to play Battlezone in true 3d in MAME?

False. It is a monitor and a plastic scope.

Thanks.  I know that I only played it twice when I was 7 Twice on the same and only day that I ever saw the real arcade machine.  I guess I was so impressed with the game at the time back then, that I remembered it to be better then it really was.

Sounds like the Nintendo Virtual Boy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_boy).

Battlezone was not 3D at all, but that would have been cool. :)

I played a Battlezone up in Idaho once.  Only had one working "joystick".  I got the high score.

Battlezone does use a mirror to reflect the monitor's image, giving the feel of added depth.
