Title: capacitor question??

capacitor specs:
25vdc , 18000mfd, it sits between the transformer and the power board, Game is outrun,

Can i eliminate this and just wire 12v to my new power supply?

Testing 15v with meter

I did not do the conversion myself, so I don't know what's entailed.

That cap might sit in the cab between the transformer and power supply, but it would be wired into the supply somewhere, likely between the rectifier and regulation circuits. It's a filter cap to smooth the power after rectification.

If you are installing a switching power supply, you won't need it.

Post by: Level42 on June 14, 2006, 01:53:53 pm: On old (conventional) power supplies, a cap like that is used to smooth out (filter) any left overs from the AC. However, a modern switching power supply is already filtered for any AC components within the power supply itself. So there should be no need for the cap anymore. Those really big one's are pretty expensive as well...

Check if the currents that the switching supply can deliver is at least as much as the old supply could.

Thanks for the info, once I get home I am yanking out the old cap and transformer and rewiring the wires from them. So far the wiring is about 70% completed. Just still need an outrun pcb that works so that I can play the damn game, If you know of anyone, please drop me a line, thanks again.

Post by: kjoel0123 on June 14, 2006, 10:44:17 pm: Just removed the transformer wiring and the capacitor. I removed the pcb and the battery tests 4.2v. should be 5.5v.

Will this cause my video to scramble all the colors?

Will changing the battery on this board kill the pcb?

My cab has 2 boards -My board numbers:

cpu board- 171-5376-01

other #'s found on the cpu board
837-6-63-02 rev b
834-6065-04 rev b
171-5377-01- 2nd board

Anyone know these answers please let me know, thanks

You might want to investigate that question here:

(along with many other games I never realized did)
