SO, I'm a landscaper. I go out to do one of these industrial parks today and notice a rather large pile of junk by one of the buildings. Didn't think much of it at the time. As I'm working my guys are checking out the junk pile (they always do this anytime they see garbage). As I get closer I notice that there appears to be a juke box in there. So, I go to check it out. Turns out there are 3 juke boxes in there. The old kind that play actual records. There are also several tabletop game machines (I'm guessing the card game types) and lo and behold....an original (appears to be completely original) Sega upright Afterburner arcade game! Then, I see the sign that says FREE STUFF!
I'm like, HOLY COW!!!! :notworthy: :laugh2: COOL!!!
Then I realize that I am working, and have no way to get the machine home. None. Nadda. I'm screwed. Someone just handed me a FREE original machine and I CAN"T TAKE IT!!!! That is SICK :banghead: :soapbox: :censored:
So after many tears and screams of horror and nasty words, I did the only thing I could think of... I took off the control panel and took the circuit board out of the machine. I dunno if the machine worked or not, but it sure looked good on the inside to me. I absolutely hated to leave it behind...... :hissy:
How is that for a heartbreaking story?
-
Why did you take the CP? what are you going to do with it?
-
And those table top games can go for some loot! Should've grabbed them!
-
Soooooo........what are you doing home posting this thread???
Go rent a U-Haul and get your butt to that dump site!!! ASAP!!! :soapbox:
Hurry!!! Don't bother logging off your computer, do not pass GO, do not collect $200, Just go collect that Afterburner cabinet!!!
-
That's exactly what I was thinking....
Phone Van rental while at work...leave work...pick up van.....go back and grab everything...
-
Just got home. Hmmm, dunno about U-Haul, maybe that could work, if I can get a truck.
My guys sabotaged the tabletop machines (hoping to get quarters, stupid stupid mexicans). They also trashed the juke boxes, I just got there in time to keep them from smashing up the Afterburner, although one had ripped out the power supply for some reason (IDIOT).
As to why I took the control panel and board, I just figured it would be a shame to let the whole thing get trashed, why not salvage what I can before it's hauled to the dump? Someone would want the control panel and board.....
-
Are you still online man???
C'mon lets go...MOVE IT...MOVE IT...MOVE IT... :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
HUT...TWO...THREE...FOUR...HUT...TWO...THREE...FOUR...:police:
-
I need a volunteer to go with me, I can't lift this stuff and move it by myself!
-
OH...sorry to hear about the jukes getting trashed... :'(
Well...you could still get the cabinet, or if not the cabinet, the marquee, monitor, brackets, hardware, etc...
-
Dude....what are you still doing home? No neighbors to help lift it in the truck?
-
Where do you live?
-
Nope, no neighbors, friends, etc. . that could help me out right now.
Live in Tampa Florida area if anyone is around and is interested (fat chance, but hey)....
-
Hell, go back 100 times with a screw driver and take the thing apart a piece at a time....get the monitor next...then the coin stuff..
-
If you have a pickup truck, you could back up the truck to the machine, then lean the back of the machine on the tailgate, then grab the front bottom of the cabinet and slide it up and on to the truck bed. The cabinet will end up on its back. Take rope or ratchet strap with you.
-
Oh... you just went offline...well good luck
Don't forget to take pictures!!!

Well, hubby got home and I mentioned the machine and...he doesn't want me to have it.
SO, if anyone in the Tampa area is interested, PM me and I'll send directions.

I'm in Tampa - WHERE? WHERE? WHERE?

Isn't there a tropical storm going on?
-
Does it really matter with all that sitting out there for free? The only concern I have about the hurricane is if it blowing away the cab. ;)
On a more serious note - it wasn't much more than a bad storm. I didn't even lose power. It's nice out now.

I have to admit, I love threads like these. It's like the BYOAC version of that new show "Treasure Hunters". ;D

.............(hoping to get quarters, stupid stupid mexicans).
Wow... :lame:

Ok, to clear things up.... I am a women.
Location of arcade machine is:
(Depending on where you live in Tampa)... Take 275 south to I-4 East. Take I-4 east to the 50th Street exit (after driving this there is no longer an exit for 50th, so easiest thing to do is drive to the next exit which is Martin Luther King JR. and hop back on I-4 going west, then take the 50th street exit. Turn left on 50th Street. Turn Right on 10th Street East (right by Taco Bell). Go all the way to the end and go around the block to 11th Street. (I know that sounds confusing, but trust me, its the only way to get back there unless it is easier for you to take 40th Street south and turn left on 11th). There is an industrial park on the left hand side just before the road ends. Drive in and you will see a pile of stuff to your left, in front of two buildings that look out of place as they are houses?!?! surrounded by giant metal sheds.
Hopefully it is still there. Let me know if it is there and you get it. If you do, I'll gladly give you the parts I took so you can restore it and see if it still works.

stupid stupid mexicans
:'( I was pulling for you to get those freebies until I read that. :'(

It wasn't very politically correct, but let's just presume for a second that they WERE mexican... And then couple with the fact that their first instinct was to just rip everything apart, well, that's pretty stupid. :D

Fair enough, but the comment came across as lumping all Mexicans together in the "stupid" category.

Actually, I took it as a play on the brilliant work of Jeff Smith, as per Wyluli's tagline ... in that context, it is pretty clear that not all rat creatures were stupid, so that your inference of "lumping together" was not necessarily what was implied. The behaviour of these particular Mexicans appears to fall in line with those rat creatures who were, in fact, stupid.
Granted, that nuance would be missed by the vast majority of folks.
Cheers.

ahhh... gotcha.. I guess it's not often we read that bit of text under the avatar.
Hmmm... "Bork, bork, bork...." Sounds like a warm-up chant to a Senate Judiciary Commitee meeting... ;)

Alas, it is only the unintelligible (drunken?) ravings of a mustacheoed man in the kitchen .... :P
Cheers.

Ah yes. We live in an overly politically correct society these days. Actually, It was a Jeff Smith Bone reference and focused on the stupidity of it. You gotta love those stupid stupid rat creatures man!!
I'll continue to check this post to see if anyone picked up the machine (which is probably wet by now, but the bezel, monitor etc... could still be saved
I sure hope someone picked it up. You can't beat Free.....
And lets not forget I will give you the CP and board that I took from it (which have been saved from the wetness)..........
