Title: Smoked Lexan instead of Tempered Glass?
Post by: Virtualmatt on June 11, 2006, 11:44:34 am
Someone told me that smoked tempered glass for my cocktail cabinet would run me ~$350.  That's above and beyond my budget, so would Smoked Lexan be a good cheap alternative?

The glass would be the standard cocktail size and all.  Thanks!

May I suggest using our search feature. This has been discussed numerous times

I did a search last night, and didn't come up with a specific lexan vs. tempered glass post.  Perhaps you could link me to a specific post . . . ?  The search terms I used obviously failed me, and for that I  apologize.

The glass I just bought for my upright (26" x 26.25") was only around $70, (with the edges brushed for smoothness-i.e. to ground out sharp edges.)

It was greylite #14.  Found that suggested by another member.  Works and looks great.

You need to check on that price.  Sounds pretty high to me.  I remember doing some comparisons for my upright and the price of lexan and glass was very close.  I ended up with plexi for half the price and just went slow when working with it.

For a sit down cab I would think you would want to go with tempered glass.  It will be stronger all around and better suited to the table.  Just call around to a few places and see what they can do.
