Title: Dreamcast controls

Hi, from reading ive heard the x-arcade BYOA Kit (http://www.xgaming.com/byoarcade.shtml) will allow me to *easily* switch between the digital pad and analogue stick. If this is the case, how does it handle on an 8 way stick? I guess i dont really mind how bad it handles as long as it works, but for the price, id like it to be decent. Also, is there any alternatives that do the same? (arcade controls to dreamcast (including analogue))

IIRC, (I don't have one) that way to switch from digital to analog is by pressing a couple buttons at the same time.  Quick, yes.

However what the X Arcade is doing when simulating analog is much like mame does with digital inputs on analog games.  It takes the digital info from the 8-way sticks and translates it to an analog signal, depending on how long that direction is pressed (or not pressed).  IMO this sucks control-wise in general, but some feel it's fine.  You can test how the simulated analog will feel by playing analog games with a keyboard or digital joystick (Spy Hunter for example).  Of course, you want games very much the DC games you want to play, with matching controls.

OTOH, I can't remember how many DC games needed true analog control, OTTOH, but it's been a while.  If the games didn't need true analog, but just a direction from the analog stick, the controls will do okay.

I use to play mario 64 (and other N64 games) with a keyboard. Its the sort of thing i can deffinatly get use to. Also i will be playing alot of NES games ect, so im sure itll be fine. The real question now is what options do i have? I have decent to good soldering skills and money lol. What options are there that will allow me to have an analogue joystick in my cab? (basically, alternatives to the x-arcade kit with dreamcast adapter) Thanks
