Title: Remove laminate or paint over it?
Post by: cbmeeks on June 06, 2006, 04:23:29 pm
I have a Twin Eagle cab that has a gawd-aweful ugly orange/black design on the sides but it is smooth to touch.  I want to paint it Q*bert yellow/orange but still get that smooth feeling.

How would I get this?  Paint and sand and sand and sand?  Or remove the laminate (how?) and find that super-rare Q*bert yellow laminate and replace?

Thanks!

I removed the laminate on my MK2 cab and painted it black. I am not happy with the out come. It looks fine from about 10ft away but up close and to the touch it is not smooth. I am stripping another cab down now and would also like to know what kind of results I can get from leaving the smooth laminate on.

Is the laminate already painted? If so, strip the paint off the laminate and paint it. Otherwise, as long as the black and orange are flush with each other, prime and paint the laminate. I would not recamend removing the laminate, as it will most likely leave residue.
