Title: PC Karaoke setup...
Post by: Dazz on June 05, 2006, 08:21:31 pm
Hey Guys,

I recently ripped my whole karaoke collection to CDG/MP3 and would like to be able to run karaoke from my MAME cabinet.  I'm currenty using onboard sound and looking into getting a good sound card for karaoke use.  Need something that would allow 2+ mic inputs.  Also I'd need to get a mixer that would be good for cabinet use...  Any suggestions?

Hi,

I used a standard sound card but then plugged that into a Karaoke mixer, using a Radioshack cable with RCA plugs on one end. Mic inputs then go to the mixer not the pc and out to a amp. However you could route it back to the pc via line in  if you wanted to use your pc speakers.

As for putting it in your Mame cab that is a hard one my mixer for one would not fit in a mame machine. I do have it in a cab but it is bigger than a mame machine. Bottom line if you want a karaoke machine build a new cab! I did.......

You can buy sound cards with 1/4 inch jack inputs on them, I had one but ended up not using it.

Yeah when i use freebox for my karaoke i also run the mics through a seperate karaoke amp as this allows more control for volume and reverb on a per microphone basis. Ideally i want to use something simular to a shower hose to cover the mic cables to protect them simular to how light guns are hooked up to a cabinet in the arcades. You can get cheap PA or Karaoke amps off ebay.
