Title: What fronends use avi files for game previews?
Post by: Circo on June 03, 2006, 01:54:17 pm
I want to get the links up on my site for all of the front-ends that can utilize my game previews.

I know of a few:

Mamewah
GameEX
3D Arcade

What others FE's also work with them?

Thanks!

AtomicFE does that too.

Youki, others...

When Budda pointed to the wikki this was the correct answer.  With respect to the poster, those of you who chime in and say "oh mine can do that too!" not only make yourselves look desperate, but are "giving a man a fish".  People who aren't willing to work for an answer don't deserve one.

I'm not trying to be snippy, it's just the whole purpose of the wikki is so the forum isn't flooded with easily answered questions just like this one.

With that being said, I'm sure you will all ignore me and do exactly the same thing the next time a question comes up and by responding to this I've not only defeated my own purpose of keeping the boards un-cluttered but have made myself out to be the "villian" yet again so forget it.  :badmood:

Honestly, did not know it was on the wiki, so touche there.  But the whole purpose of me asking was so I could post links to all the different Front ends and maybe even some how-to's on the emumovies website.  I am so locked into the front-end that I use I haven't tried a different one in over two years.  So I just posted the question up because I know that many FE authors have been adding this functionality and they are regularly on this board.

And if over 1,000 hours of work at making cool little intro vids for everyone who cares still keeps me at "n00b" status or whatever then I guess I should just keep my mouth shut.  I know it's not as nifty as making your own FE or anything, but I do what I can.

To those of you who chimed in, and those front-ends that are in the WIKI, I will get those links up asap.  If you me to have any specific comments or notes about your frontend up with it just send me an email, so know one knows how god awful lazy I am.

Maximus arcade does.  It is a commercial program though.  I did a little research.

Mytht.v. is a program that has multiple emulator support.  I didn't see it in the wiki.

You know what, Circo busted his ass for this community, so if he wants to ask if the sky is blue here, he should be fully within his rights to do so.  Why do you think everyone puts up with your negative opinionated posts Howard?  I know Budda is promoting the wiki, but why not just suggest he could also find the answers there?  Circo, you've more than earned my respect just like Howard and Budda has, so feel free to ask away and we will be more then happy to point you to the wiki and also answer the questions if we can.  :applaud:

This application is a software DVR rather than an arcade cabinet front end. I would rather not mix that in on this site. If there was a wiki for BYOPVR.com I would definitely include it there.

I know Budda is promoting the wiki....

More than that, I did a lot of the work necessary to create the intro videos for MAME. So I promote usage of the MAME videos whenever possible. And I also pimp the wiki.

Huh?  I didn't say anything about circo.  He asked a legitimate question.  Budda gave a legitimate (and most correct I might add)  answer.  Then we had the peanut gallery chime in and waste everyone's time saying:  "Ooo let me help, you know the fe that I have a vested interest in?  It just happens to do it too. I won't mention any of the others though as I'm only interested in telling you that my own personal favorite can do it."  And I'm not a mind reader.  This comments might very well be self-less, but I'm a pretty smart guy and when it doesn't look that way to me then it's probably a safe bet that some others are seeing said-posts in a similar light. It makes it look like all the fe devs, and all the fe fanboys are at war with each other.  Again I don't think good intentions ever harmed anyone, I just think it ends up looking bad when you only mention your favorite like that.  And as you can clearly tell by this mis-understanding how things look is far more important to the community than how much you help or what your intentions are.   If this wasn't the case then I wouldn't constantly be attacked for trying to be helpful (although admittedly blunt)  while people who aren't particularly helpful (dear god I don't mean anyone in this particular thread so don't even go there) are praised for contributing when all they really do is give nice responses with no actual answers or advice in them.

The best, and most un-biased answer is to just point to a list like budda did.  If the list isn't updated enough, THEN we need to look into it.

This really doesn't matter though because you know I was half-way kidding in the first place.  I even put up the "grumpy" icon to let you guys know I was just being picky.

Apparently not only can you not say anything bad about things in general on this board, for fear that the one person you weren't talking about will naturally assume you were talking about them, but you can't be subtle with sarcasam/humor either.

Let's try this...... hold on, here comes a joke.  Be ready, I'm just kidding.  Are you ready??? Ok, one more warning.

[Sarcastic Joke]
Sheesh, did this board turn into a collective of 16 year old girls?  ;)
[/Sarcastic Joke]

Finally yet AGAIN  someone (this time Circo, unfortunately)  took a GENERALIZED comment I made about people that aren't willing to look for answers and thought I was talking about him.  Look at my post guys the whole entire post was about how lately this happens in every other thread.  Why in the world would you guys think that I was talking about every thread for my whole post and suddenly insult poor old circo at the end for no apparent reason?  You guys make me out as some kind of monster.

Circo you took it farily well considering, but I still don't appreciate the sarcasam.   However if I were to have taken what I said personally I probably would have said something similar.  I don't see how a person could take that personally as I didn't mention anyone, but oh well.  Regardless, I'm sorry if I offended you.

Again, apparently you have to type real slow here or people can't follow.
Next time I'll write in crayon, scan it in, and post the image here.  (That was one of those "joke" things, don't panic, jokes aren't real.  There's no such thing as 2.)

You know I normally censor responses to "misunderstandings" like this for the sake of keeping the peace, but lately everyone seems to be out to get me.  You would think after all the stuff I do that people would cut me a little bit of slack instead of jumping on me when they think I've been rude.

Perhaps, by posting this  unfiltered post to the people who were nice about it, and another, less nice post on another thread to a similar misunderstanding in which someone was very rude about it people will finally get that I am NOT the enemy here and I am NEVER rude.  I'm just honest.

While some people will censor their opinon for fear of one person taking it the wrong way, I feel it's better to give the full opinon.  The majority won't take it personally and it makes it easier to get a point across.

What do you people want from me?  Blood?  An apology?

Fine....
I'm sorry for being naturally witty,  concise and detailed with my answers... for being ruggedly-handsome and an all around nice guy.

Whew... Now that I've said it I feel a lot better.  I feels good to apologize for one's faults every once in a while.   ;D

Always an entertaining read  'Howard_Casto' :P

I am a self confessed 'fe fanboy' and I am guilty of doing what you say when I first joined the forum, not of late.

But for the record 'Believe it or not' my posts are truths in this thread.

and the Wiki rocks Buddabing

No worries Howard, just got a little caught up in the moment is all.  I am not offended and all is well, the only reason that I thought it was directed "personally" at me was, well, it was in response to my question, or so it seemed.  Even if it was personal, it doesn't really matter, and I know it wasn't.  As far as my sarcasm, those who know me personally know that I pretty much bleed sarcasm, that's just me, I just usually don't type it, I just talk it.

Anyway, no harm no foul, and now back to finishing the GBA set, which will hopefully be released this weekend along with the website updates.

On a side note: to those few people who have recently offered to help with my EmuMovies project, I am trying to get a step by step walkthrough done that includes everything that you will need to make the previews.  I am really trying to get this next set out first, since it has been almost three months since the last release, and then that will be my next focus.  So thank you for the offers and expect my response very soon.

And now that I have used it... :-[ I also agree that the WIKI rocks, thanks Buddabing!
