Title: help with backlight wiring
Post by: kiddk1 on May 24, 2006, 07:34:02 pm
the light and wires in this cab are original.  The 3 wires came out of a molex that also had the speaker wires.  they go to a transformer and a super starter.  my question is can I make this work with a standard pc power supply and if so how do I wire it?
or would it be easier to some how add different lights?

The 3 wires for the lamp are probably AC power and ground.   You should look at Bob Roberts site to wire the flourescent fixture.

You cannot hook to a PC supply unless you have an old AT supply with the AC out for the monitor.  Just as easy to put on a 3 wire AC plug.

Don't bother with the power supply - it takes 120V. Since you have to plug the power supply into 120V anyways, tap off of that and connect to the power strip, or however you have power coming into your cab. I wired up an old lamp cord that I cut the end and stripped the wires to connect on the light side, and had the standard plug to go right into the power strip.

If you get one of the Bits Ltd power strips, it will turn on the light when you turn on the computer...

I asked this same question.

I just wired a plug from home depot onto the lamp and plugged it into the power supply, works perfectly after replacing the starter.
