I'd like to use a laminate on my next control panel, but I've not used that stuff before. What's the recommended technique? Should I glue it up first, then drill and jigsaw it, or should I cut the MDF out first, glue it, then recut the holes in the laminate?
Thanks!

Note: I haven't used laminate yet
i would think you'd cut it out, then assemble your cab, countersinking the screws. Fill them in and laminate over it for a smooth clean look.

I have not used laminate either, but my wife did work at a counter top fabricator, and I watch a lot of home improvement shows.
The best sequence would be.
1. Cut your panel to size.
2. Route any recesses on the bottom side. ie: Joysticks
3. Drill and countersink any holes for mounting screws.
4. Epoxy your mounting screws into the holes.
5. Apply laminate using contact cement. Laminate should be larger than CP.
6. Trim Laminate to size with a router and laminate trim bit.
7. Drill all other holes, preferrably with a hole saw or forestner bit, and not a spade bit.

One other thing to consider is the glue: I've had good luck with the Formica brand water soluable stuff.
It actually seems to work better than the non-water sol compounds, and the fumes won't kill you either... :)

best way in my opinion,
You laminate the whole thing first with contact cement and let it dry for atleast like 2 hours then carefully drill with spade bit.A holesaw might be better then spade bit but i didnt have any problem..just built an all laminate couple of days ago.came out allright looking..

Check with kitchen cabinet shops in your area. You could also check the manufacturers websites (www.formica.com or www.wilsonart.com) and see who's their UK distributor. Call/e-mail the distributor and they'll gladly point you towards a retailer.
