My first day in Phoenix... go to see a movie with my roomate, and the ---uvula--- next to me steals my cell phone and leaves like 5 minutes before the movie ends. :badmood: I'm so pissed off... but it could have been worse, I guess. He could have nabbed my wallet, too.

you should have call the person and told him that your cell phone has self exploding mechanism built in if its out of reach 25ft from your watch ;)
And it has a tracking device so you can locate it in time before it explodes :P
Anyway, I don't see any reason why ppl steal CELL PHONES, its practically FREE now with a new service plan. And on top of it, how much time they could use it untill you report it and have it disconnected......DUMB ASS PEOPLE (THIEVES).
Now unless it was one of those FANCY PHONES (TREO,BLACKBERRY, etc) that they could have UNLOCK and use it in other countries or maybe even here.
Hopefully by the time you post this, its already been disconnected.....

Oh, within 45 minutes of it being stolen, I had it disconected. And it's a pice of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- phone, too. A kyocera. Nothing special at all. :hissy: What sucks is all the phone numbers I had stored in the phone and nowhere else.

Something similar happened to a friend about the same week I got my first cell phone. Since then, I regularly check all my new phones in the list and enter them in an Excel spreadsheet I have with phones, addresses and stuff. I don't know of anyone else (among my friends) who does that. They use the phones as their addresses book, but they don't have any backup... And that's a bad idea.

I setup my phone up to be PASSWORD protected before use, just in case lost/stolen. Some phones don't have that feature but all have it so when you turn the phone on, it asked for password first.
This help me out years ago, when I only turn on the phone for use. I usually have my phone off after use and of course never recive any calls but, back then, 300 minutes was allowed FREE. I did not want to go over my minutes.
After I use my phone that day, I turn it off and put if my pocket. As I got up from the chair it fell out and i only notice that it was gone when I was about 1/4 mile away from the BoardWalk chair in Atlantic City. I ran back and sure enought, it aint there. Look around for people playing with a phone fidling with it or something (sign) that might look like my phone but NADA...It was GONE... Oh well, it was a CHEAPO NOKIA brand and it was OFF so, I had no worries about being use ata ll. Called,.... thinking of the name now..........its the company that went upside down, oh I think it was WORLDCOME MCI, thats was my provider, I have it disconnected and i had only about ONE MONTH left for my contract to end, so i just continued paying and i move on to another provider the next day.

NOOOOOOOOOO! Not the phone numbers! :banghead:
I have like 7 in mine. (Work issued phone. Free for me baby.)

Yeah, now I'm starting an excel spreadsheet of numbers. Good idea. :applaud:
-
I use it for numbers, addresses, birthdays, emails... All that personal info you don't want to lose. From time to time I'd advice to just print a copy, there's not a better backup than printed copies (if you know where you're hiding them).

How did he steal your cell phone? Was it laying out in the open, or did he grab it and run?

I had clipped it inside my pocket... I guess he lifted it when he bumped me... :badmood:
Now, US cellular wants $170 for their CHEAPEST new phone. Or $10 if I sign a new 2 year contract. ---fudgesicle--- that. I hate ---goshdarn--- US Cellular, they can suck it. Once my contract is up, new phone company time.
