Post by: AndyWarne on May 16, 2006, 09:49:54 am
We now have Video and Control adaptors for connecting a Dreamcast to a cabinet or control panel. They are designed and supported by Ultimarc but are being sold by www.arcadecabinets.co.uk

Their picture shows a PS2 adapter hooked up to PS2->dreamcast controller adapters. Is that an accurate representation of the product? Although I guess given the price it must be...

What about the video connection.  Do the video need to be boosted like the xbox and ps2?

I want to use a 4 port KVM and I am not sure if I use  hacked DC cable if I need to hook it directly to the switch box, using the typical monitor ends or splice the five wires to connect the wires.

I just bought a hacked DC cable that will produce 15kzh but the end has the regular vga/monitor connector.

What are the odds?! Yesterday I was looking on your site to see if you had a dreamcast adaptor yet. Are these going to be on your site eventually, Andy?

As long as it works, who cares if it's a PSone/PS2 adaptor to Dreamcast. From the photos it also looks like you can plug up VMUs to the adaptors.

So I guess a standard PC keyboard switcher box would allow someone to switch between Mame and Dreamcast controls? Or is there something that Ultimarc recommends for switching between consoles?

The adapters are customised PS2 adaptors, we had to adapt a Dreamcast to PS2 adaptor to get it to work. The VGA adaptor connects to the back of the dramcast and either into a Jpac or directly into a VGA monitor. This also has a sound output.

The adapter also supports two VMU memory units which is why we had to use a more expensive version of the adaptor.

Do not plug your PS2 adapter into a dreamcast oneit wont work we have to reprogram the Ultimarc PS2 adaptor to get it to work.

What about w/ the ipac?

What about 15 Kkz monitors (CGA)?  I have a Happs Vision Pro.

Will the new reprogramed PS2 adapter work on a PS2?

It will connect to an Ipac without any trouble.

We do do a 15khz monitor RGB Composite Sync adaptor which has screw terminals on it so you can connect it to a Arcade Monitor. Its the same price as the VGA one, i just havent put it on the site yet.

The PS2 adaptor will NOT work on a PS2 it will break it, its Dreamcast only.

I don't think I stole anyones idea! This was always going to be the only way to implement a DC adaptor because the DC uses a patented interface (Maple Bus) and the special chips needed are only available under license from Sega.  The interface is as fast as USB so it can't be emulated in firmware either.

Does it support digital and analog controls?

Are the dc pads hard to hack or something?

I'm always for new stuff and I'm a big fan of andy's stuff in particular but I don't understand this whole console adaptor business.  Video I completely understand... controls not so much.

Not everyone has the ability to hack pads. Some people who are new to electronics have a hard time figuring out the crimp connectors. Pad hacks are also time consuming. Even if you do know what you are doing, they will take longer than installing a converter. I can't really blame someone for wanting to just buy a converter rather than doing a hack.

Whoa 78.00 GBP for the control adaptors?  :o
The Xbox and PS1/PS2 versions are only 28.00 GBP.   Why such a big price difference?
