Title: Hiding XP - Password stuck
Post by: MPTech on May 14, 2006, 11:43:09 pm
I didn't want to hi-jack the "Hiding XP" topic, but I would really appreciate some help.

After I installed the animated MAME boot screen, the password logon came up and I proceeded to step 2:

2. Getting rid of the Welcome screen

i) Start Menu -> Control Panel + select User Accounts.
ii) Select "Change the way users log on or off"
iii) Un-tick the "Use the Welcome screen" + apply options.  Close the User Accounts window.
iv) Start Menu -> Run  and enter control userpasswords2
v) Un-tick the "User must enter a username and password to use this computer"
vi) Enter the password for the person you want to login as.

I wanted it to continue logging in as the Administrator with no password (as it did before), so when it asked the password I hit Enter and did not input one.
But when I rebooted, it would not let me in and I received this message: "Unable to log you on because of an account restriction".

Now I can't logon in Administrator.  I can login as a username I established, but it will not allow me to make any changes or run MSCONFIG (no admin privileges).
How do I log back in as Administrator?  (with no password?)

Hi,

Someone may have another idea but worst case scenario you can reset the password with tools found here:
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm#1 (http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm#1)

Good Luck. I have used these tools on a few PC's with great success.

...If you are going to set a 'autologin' via control userpasswords2.   I would recommend setting up another account for that (with admin privileges if you must / you can change that back later) .

I had a similar problem: Following the above link should work.  Also, you can try logging in using safemode if you still have troubles even after you have zapped the password for sure.  I had to use safemode.  Good luck.

I tried logging into safe mode and it allowed me to change/re-set the password, but the password didn't take or something, because it would not allow me to log back in normally with the new password.

I also tried the utility / bootdisk option.  I upladed the file (3 times, using different emails) and have not received a reply yet.

Any other suggestions?????

thanks

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/)
I've used this program several times to reset clients passwords for both XP and 2k.

You just dl and create a boot disk (CD of floppy) and boot from it.
