Sorry if anyone is sick of noobs but I am really interested in console modding. If anyone could help with links to sites, tips, etc. that would be greatly appreciated. If it helps anyone I would rather have my first projects be older systems rather than this gen.
thanks

Get yourself a Saturn with round buttons (oval button systems can be problematic) and one of these mod chips:

This is probably one of the easist console mods out there.

thanks a lot for the help but i am a complete noob. I ve never even soldered a wire before....yeah kinda sad....i need to know a place to start everything. I found a site on how to solder but like it would be good to have detailed specs of consoles so i know about all the technical stuff when people are talking about modding and a very easy project. Something like putting an led in something or other basic stuff.

Search google for sites on soldering how-to's and some general info on LEDs and electricity. Learn about simple electrical ideas like volts/watts/amps etc to get started.
Go to RadioShack and pick up a cheap electronics kit or just some blank PCBs and start soldering crap onto it.
You don't really need to know insanely detailed stuff to mod consoles. You need a general knowledge of electronics and soldering. You just need to know that wire A goes to point B and that is that.

Spend some time over here

Lots of info on the forums here.

they have solderless options for teh xbox and certain revisions of the PS2

The Saturn chip that I linked to only requires two solder points. Both are easy to access. There's really nothing to it. Find an old clock radio or a broken VCR or something and practice soldering on the PCB inside until you feel confident. Soldering is something that you're only going to learn by doing.

This may sound like dumb advice but its the truth. I didn't learn to solder until I started hacking my DC controllers....I must have gone through 5 of them before I got it right but those last 2 work great.
Now that said, I modded my Xbox with a chip that required NO soldering. So you can mod without solder. I'm not sure about other systems though.
