What I find really annoying is that playchoice games use 2 screens (effectively a 4:6 ratio), but mame scales the 4:6 image onto a 4:3 screen! so that immediately reduces the image down to half size.
I want to know if you can actually rotate the game 90 degrees in mame so it will actually fill most of a vertically oriented screen. Rotating in drivers is not an option (because it doesnt work).

Change ratio or disable 'Strech using hardware'. Second option works fine if I select rotation in MAME. I use mameplus.

I use commandline mame. Is the rotate option only in mameplus? I use mamewah as a launcher, I hope it works. Thanks :)

rtfm
use -ror or -rol respectively.
Dual screen games aren't given any special treatment in mame, they are essentially a single screen game.

I'm curious why anyone would want to play PlayChoice-10 games (when the individual original games they were based on are far superior)

Sometimes I wonder the same. The original Nintendo games are way better. But some PC10 games are slightly different from the originals, in a way that makes them valuable beyond the nostalgia.

Actually they aren't. They are for the most part, direct dumps of their nes counter-parts.
Now nintendo VS games, they are slighty different. Vs. Super Mario Bros, for example, had slight variences in the level design.

You're right, they're the VS games and not the PC10 the ones which are different. My fault.
