I have tried 3 diff frontends(mamewah, gameex, and atomic) all 3 display fine on my screen but once I launch a game the size is decreased. I cannot figure this out. I included an example of 1942, the black on the sides is the rest of my screen. any help would be appreciated

Dude, that's a vertical game, it's not supposed to fill the entire horizontal width of the screen. Also having artwork, crop turned off is what is making the screen so tiny.
-
I understand its a vertical game, but street fighter displays the same way. where is artwork crop located in gameex? thanks
-
it's a mame setting
set it in mame's mame.ini
-
I am using gameex which is where the snapshot was taken from

Typing 'mame -cc' is beyond you? If took more effort than that to write your posts in this forum...

Try using hardware stretch (hwstretch).

let me be more clear, creating a mame.ini file is beyond me. why not stop being such an ass and be more clear. where do I type mame -cc?
-
You type 'mame -cc' where your mame.exe is located.

I am having a moment of charity - it won't last long, but let me help you out before the guys here slam you (and rightfully so).
You need an .ini file to specify mame settings you would like to change, or it will use the defaults: one of which is to add artwork and not use hardware stretch. These are MAME settings - it will affect ALL the frontends, since all they do is launch MAME.
You need to check out the link that Minwah provided, it will tell you everything you need to know, you just have to READ it, but you must put forth some effort on your side - it's the only true way to learn this stuff.
To create the ini file (using mame -cc), they mean open a command prompt and while in the mame directory, type that command in. You will then have a brand-new mame.ini file, which when opened with a text editor, like notepad, you can change the settings, most of which are 0 if off, 1 if on.
To learn more, try this link - it's drilled down a little more than Minwah's:
http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mameguide/mameindex.htm (http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mameguide/mameindex.htm)
Click on the config files to the left.
Now get reading and get that fixed!

God I'm very patient but this has pissed me off today. If you can't be arsed to follow the link I gave you a simple search of this board or any mame-related one would find the answer about 5 billion times.

Thanks guys, i will get cracking.
