I've been using Mamewah for a while now and not had any problems. I installed a sound card and a firewire card and now Mamewah starts to launch (gets to the screen with the game list) then announces there was an internal error and quits.
the .log file shows that "error -2005401480 automation error in SFX_InitialiseDS" This is listed three times in the log for each time I try to launch it.
How can I fix this?

Update. Re-installed mamewah and still get the same.
Any ideas on a fix?

That's the new timebomb Minwah put into the program. You didn't donate, did you?

Minwah is a greedy man, he wants money ;D
I would start by disabling sound and see if it works. I am assuming if it was working for you before, so your DirectX should be up to date, but make sure. Check for updated drivers for your sound card.
The error you are getting says it is having trouble initializing DirectSound, so it's something with the new sound card.

Do you have the latest DirectX installed? Are the sound card drivers DX compatable. Go into the Mamewah.ini file and disable sounds and see if it runs.

Finally got to try these things as I had removed the computer hardware to change out the monitor in my cabinet.
The problem was indeed the sound card. I'd installed and then removed the new sound card (didn't make much of a difference in how games ran). I'd uninstalled the drivers, but forgot to enable the bulit-in sound.
Thanks for the deciphering of the error code.
