Could someone please briefly explain to me why these joysticks are so great because I'm young, dumb and ugly.  I've searched around, but all I have found is that people think very highly of WICO Balltop Joysticks.  Also, it sounds like they were used on some classic arcade cabinets.

I think the young part is the answer to your question.  Us old folks grew up on WICOs, They're like comfort food or a warm fuzzy blanky,  They help us recapture that little portion of our youth.  For some reason they just feel right. Ya gotta try one at least once, I bet you'll like 'em.

Ponyboy, You should buy up all the leftover stock of Wico translucent leaf switch buttons along with the holders and leaf switches. Those translucent leaf switch buttons would sell like hotcakes around here.

I grew up with Wico leafs... So did my friends. So what happens? One of my old friends with whom I used to go "arcade hopping" with comes over and plays my MAME cab for the first time. He says [of the joystick] "feels a little stiff".

Are grommets required if I want to buy some Wico Balltop Joystick Handles for my Perfect 360s?

No grommets for P360s, just the handles.

Just to clear this up.  The Perfect 360 stock handle is 6" overall.  Are the Wico handles measured differently or are they just a shorter throw?  My 360's are mounted so the handle is right where I want it and if I make a switch I need to know if I have to re-mount them.

Thanks
Don

the wico ball-top handles are not the same length as the stock p360 bat top.

i don't have measurements for the stock bat-top handy, but i do have measurements for the wico ball-tops. you'll have to measure your bat top, with whatever spacers you have installed, and then compare to the following measurements, which are all from the top of the joystick base to the top of the ball:

  4" wico + p360 "wood" spacer - 3 1/8"

  4" wico + p360 "metal" spacer - 2 3/4"

  4" wico (no spacer) - 2 5/8"
  3.5" wico - 2 1/2"

these measurements are somewhat rough; i just measured by eye with a ruler, with no precise parallax correction.

i'm pretty sure the last two measurements (4" wico with no spacer and 3.5" wico) are actually identical, even though the numbers i listed differ by 1/8". i measured them at different times and never went back and compared them to each other directly.

The bat top wth 'wood' spacer the stick extends out from the base is 3 5/8".  So a ball top would drop it about a half inch.  OK, good to know.
