Title: KDS 19" computer monitor. Neck glow but no picture
Post by: quarterback on April 30, 2006, 08:05:31 pm
I'm feeling like I'm trapped in a world of disappointment.   I got this 19" KDS computer monitor with a trinitron flat screen.  It's about 5 years old and was (to my knowledge) simply replaced by an LCD screen.  So, when I was offered the 19", I took it.

But I can't get any picture.

I thought, at first, that perhaps my monitor cable was bad or something, but I don't see any signs of life on the screen at all.  When I turn it on, I can hear the sproinggg of the degaussing, and the neck is glowing, but I see nothing on the screen.  And when I turn it off, there's no 'flash' or any other sign of life either.

The inside seems immaculate.  No dust, no nothing.  Everything looks new.  I found one fuse and tested it for continuity and it's not blown.

There is one thing.  The power button would get 'stuck' before I loosened the tiny pcb behind the button. You've seen it before, the plastic button portion gets stuck "in" when pushed.  All I can figure is that, at some point, this was jammed in there and maybe screwed something up.  But the button works, the green power light goes on and off etc etc etc....

But I don't get anything on the screen.  Not even a glimmer.
Any hopeful suggestions?
Thanks

Well, (here's a link to the monitor on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004Z9IG/103-0675174-9621463?v=glance&n=172282)) There are a number of poor reviews regarding this monitor.

After more googling for info, it seems that my monitor's fate is not uncommon.  The question I have to answer now is, do I bother poking around trying to find the bad resistor or do I take it back to where I got it.

Oh well.

Actually, my guess is that all the settings have been reset, but there is not glimmer of hope at all on the screen. Not even the OSD (on screen display) will show up when  you push the menu button.

At this point, I've read too many reviews that say "The monitor just stopped working" to believe that it's anything else.  My guess is that it's a single component on one of the boards, but it's too much for me to deal with considering it was a free monitor.

It just sucks that it doesn't work.  Oh well.
