....Yes......

 Ongoing issue

 I have it so if you open the .lay file in the layout creator it will display the layout the way it should be with background image and everything. I even replaced the folder name with the default layout folder name to force it to use it. all ya get now are the context boxes in the correct areas but no background image.

And I cannot change the keymap from what it is by default.

thx
d88

I've set this up before.. why all the issues now?

I then edited my mamewah.ini file to change layouts to custom, but when I run mamewah all I get is the standard classic background.

The background image file must be incorrectly named...what version of Mamewah are you using?  Generally the image should be called 'main.jpg'...

Same problem as above...incorrectly named image(s).

You need to edit the ctrlr file...either \mamewah\ctrlr\default.ini or \mamewah\config\mamewah.cfg depending on your Mamewah version,

Minwah:  thanks for the response.  You are correct.  When I name the files main.jpg, layout.lay, message.jpg, etc. everything works great.

The problem I have is that I have an Atari 2600 emulator and MAME.  I am getting the same background/graphics for each when I change the platform settings in mamewah.    I have the layout files for each emulator from JCrouse

Minwah:  yes I have the atari200.lay and mame.lay files in my c:\mamewah\layouts\custom folder.

I have JCrouse's files so I had to rename the artwork and layouts to add in "atari2600" in front of the names in his .zip files.  I did the same for the mame files.

When I run mamewah all I get is the standard classic background.

Thanks.

Your layouts must be named the same as your .ini files. Unzip your zipped layouts in the custom folder one by one. And rename them if necessary. They can all be in the same folder since they'll be named differently. Here's an example of what it should look like: if you're ini is named
atari2600.ini = atari2600.lay, atari2600-main.jpg, atari2600-message
mame.ini = mame.lay, mame.ini =mame-main, mame-message

Open mamewah.ini and make sure it's like this

### Misc Options ###
layout                      custom

Gonzo:  thanks for the response, but I have my files named exactly as you say and I have my mamewah.ini changed so that layout shows "custom" and I am still getting the classic background.

Do I need to make any changes within the .lay files or am I completely missing the boat?

Try using the Mamewah Layout designer. File>Open Layout then browse to the custom folder and open mame.lay. Now go to Background>Image and go to the custom folder and open mame-main. You can remove anything you want by going to Display Objects>Main Form. Everything can be changed by just dragging it with the mouse. It's pretty easy. Once you're done go to open>save layout. Save it somewhere other than the custom folder. Now go to the custom folder and delete mame.lay and mame-main and move your new ones their.
