I am trying to configure an xbox360 to work with MAME so my mom can play some games instead of using the keyboard. I can't seem to get MAME to work with it, any idea?
-
Does the controller show up in the windows control panel?
Did you enable joystick support in mame?
-
Yes and Yes, I have tried to go into the setting for all games also and nothing. I know I must be missing something
-
Do any of the sticks/buttons work?
Since there are three sticks on the controller, you may need to make sure you select the apropriate one.
I had to fiddle a bit with mine when I tried it but unfortunatly I didn't think about what I was doing or remember :) I just did it.

u might have probs cause the xbox 360 controller is COMPLETLY analog with pressure sensitive buttons and junk
id say go buy a cheap pc controller

Everything works fine under the control panel. If I can't figure it out in a day or two I am going to return it for a cheaper one.

Take a peek at my tutorial on setting up gamepad configs (for MAME32 but easy enough to port over to command line versions):
http://www.gopodular.com/mame_32_emulator_setup_tutorial/index.htm (http://www.gopodular.com/mame_32_emulator_setup_tutorial/index.htm)
Since the 360 controller D-pad is seen as a POV hat in windows, the variables you need to assign are:
J1_HAT_SWITCH_U
J1_HAT_SWITCH_D
J1_HAT_SWITCH_L
J1_HAT_SWITCH_R
IIRC, that's accurate. Post back if you need help or if I'm wrong. I'm working on some 360 stuff right now anyhow. Besides, tomorrow is Friday. :applaud:

Works on my Pc. You have to install the 360 drivers from www.windowsgaming.com before connecting the controller and it should work just like any other controller.
-
Are those drivers any different than the official drivers (http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/C/8/AC8CA87C-4F5B-49D6-9E0A-C0BBA2E96663/XBOX360Eng.exe)?
