So, I'm setting up the latest version of MAME, and it looks like I have to edit the centipede.cfg file in order to use my trackball now...?
Anyone have a sample centipede.cfg they could share, or words of wisdom on just what I should add to the cfg file to get it to work?
Thanks,

You don't have to edit the cfg. Just go into the tab menu in game for 'input all games' and change all the paddle and track devices.

yeah, the problem I have with that is when I go into that menu and try to change the input, etc. and I spin my tball (as the mouse, right?) nothing happens, like it doesn't recognize it.
I've got my mame.ini file setup with mouse=1 (ON) and my trackball=mouse1 (instead of the default setting of "keyboard").
Is there something else I need to do to get mame to recognize the tball when I spin it? It works in windows as my mouse without any problems...?

I'm assuming you made sure you have the mouse enabled in mame.
Try it again, but be very careful to only spin in the X or Y direction. I had a little trouble at first too with it recognizing my trackball. Also, don't 'spin' it per say, just quickly move it up or to the right (for Y or X respectively). See if that works for you.

My Spinner is plugged into the PS2 port and the trackball is on a mini-pac. Enabling mouse support lets the spinner work just fine. To get the trackball working I tabbed into the config screen for each TB game and set the X an Y axis by just moving the trackball. In my mame.ini trackball=keyboard still. Kind of a pain.

Thanks for the help guys, I figured out what I was missing. Between my ledwiz, IPAC and trackball, I had three things plugged into USB ports, and my trackball needed to be set to:
mouse 2
instead of mouse 1
apparently mame's seeing my trackball as my "second mouse"...?
anyways, it's working thanks!
