Title: Trigger stick hack to 49-way questions
Post by: MinerAl on April 24, 2006, 02:50:16 pm
Since Randy had the foresight to make the 4-way mode in the GPWiz-49 TRON friendly, and anticipating new TRON repro handles from Fozzy or just hacking an existing tron-esque handle to a Happ 49-way, what is the shaft dimensions that will need to be taken into account for the hack?

I haven't searched yet, and I may answer my own question shortly after I have.  I think that if all the parts for a real TRON stick solution (that isn't an actual TRON stick) become available shortly, it will be something that a bunch of us will want to do.

P.S. don't mean to step on 1UP's toes, but it's been a while...

Here are the dimensions from NoOneNBA (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=27822.msg234942#msg234942)

Looks like 17/64" below the stepdown and 1/2" above.  That should make for fairly easy drilling of the handles.

I know this isn't exactly Tron-authentic, but it would REALLY be nice if there were two buttons on this stick (trigger and thumb).  This would make games like Discs of Tron and Vindicators (and probably many others) playable!

It would be DOT authentic though.  I think there is enough room on the stick "faceplate" for several small buttons if a person wants them.

Tron uses zero buttons on the plate, DOT uses 1, and Xenophobe uses two.  I've never seen one with more than two on it, and it would be a pretty tight fit inside- those volcano buttons are bigger in back than they are out front.  You might be able to get more buttons if you used a different switch- but I don't know what games you would want them for.  Maybe PC games?

If you wanted to go crazy, you could mount a POV hat from a PC stick on there, that would give you 4 inputs on the thumbplate.
