I'm a huge KI fan, but my 1.6GHz P4 wasn't cutting it with MAME and for some reason, U64 would always crash and shut down on my machine.
Now I've got a dual P4 (3 Ghz) with 1 gig of RAM and a PNY GeForce 6800 video card... it runs better, but with a lot of audio stuttering (MAME v104). I was under the impression that people were running it perfectly in MAME, but that might have been wishful thinking. What emu are all the KI fans running this game under?
Is it better to focus my efforts in getting U64 to work? (I might have better luck on my newer machine).
I'll also try getting the latest Direct X version.. maybe that'll help a little.

MAME
even when u64 was the only option, it was by no means stable nor did it emulate things accurately (even the author admitted to the timings being way off).

Thanks,
I wouldn't want to fool with u64 if the timings are going to be off then. I'll just go ahead with the plan to try DirectX 9.0c and fool with the settings a little to see what happens.
Any suggestions on what else I should try? I've already got the audio sampling rate bumped down and triple buffering turned off.
Would the fact that I'm running MAME32 have much to do with it also?
Thanks for the input!

Well if by dual p4 you mean 2 1.5 gig p4s then you issue is lack of processing power (mame doesn't use dual processors well, nor does any windows app for that matter).
Otherwise, you shouldn't be having issues as your pc is powerful enough to run ki and ki2 just fine. Turning off auto-frame skip should help as well. Also try turning the audio latency up a notch.

They're two 3Ghz processors... didn't think they'd be all that useful in MAME.. probably only getting use out of one of 'em.
I'll try the audio latency when I get home. Thanks Howard :)

you need a 3.2 MINIMUM to run KI2 without any problems in MAME. KI1 can be run on a 2.8 ok.

That's not true at all... I have a semperon 64 3400, which in pentium standards isn't even close to 3.2 gigs and yet ki2 runs just fine. I think the moral of this story is that intel sucks. ;)

Starting to feel the same way about Intel :badmood:
Still not having any luck with either of the games being really worth playing. Guess I'll be sticking with the copy of KI Gold I picked up the other day at Gamestop. ???

... so then it would be a bad idea for me to talk about the KI pcb that I got last month?

I dunno.. ;)
What does it take to get a PCB running? And how much more work is it to get a game that used a HDD for work?

KI and KI2 both run at full speed with no dropped frames on my 2.0 Ghz iMac Core Duo.
-
KI1 and KI2 both run normally (as I can tell anyway- I wasn't a fan) on my system:
PowerMame (latest)
AMD 2400+
256 ram
Geforce 5700

I am using an intel p4 3.0GHz with 512MB Ram and an arcade vga 9200 card. Both KI games run just fine.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm gonna try the command line version of mame next, and then maybe check out some of the other builds...

Well, I wasn't going to bring it up, but neither am I. While the games look rather nice, gameplay-wise the ki series is a lame ripoff of mortal kombat.

That's probably why I have 6 systems at home and not a single Intel, all AMD!

Yeah, KI runs fine on my P4 2.4 Gig 256 ram Gateway. I'm using Mame .87

You can also run an older version of mame that ran better. I don't remember the version but there was a point where the emulation became more accurate... but at the same time, slowed down the emulation.

I tried running Mame 0.89 since I still had it on my other machine.. no luck there either. I tried running it with no sound, and it's definitely smoother, but still runs rather slow. I'm convinced it's just the way my rig is set up... (it was given to me so I can't complain). I'm starting to wonder if the dual cpu setup is hurting things more than it's helping. I'm also pretty sure that the "multimedia audio card" (whatever the hell that is) is making things more complicated than they have to be but the sound has been disabled from the jack on the mobo. I'll have to look into that more -- I hate to give up when I know people are getting satisfactory results, but I'm really not all that good with computers...
