I've seen this guy answer more off the wall questions than almost anyone. And the answers aren't just guesses, they're always statements with either an exact part number, or a website or contact to find the answer. Here's to you Ken Layton , you old dog.

I asked Ken Layton for help a while back before I was on the boards, he emailed me his notes, and even converted them for me as I was not able to open the document. He is a great guy. :notworthy:

I could Find a "Mr. Arcade Genius" on Bud Light...but I think this will work,,,C'mon, you all know the theme music....
Mr. Nudist Colony Activity Coordinator
Bud Light Presents: Real Men of Genius
(real men of genius)
Today we salute you, Mr. Nudist Colony Activity Coordinator.
(Mr. Nudist Colony Activity Coordinator)
Wearing nothing but a whistle and a clipboard, you're living the real American dream: getting paid to think up fun things to do, naked.
(Runnin' free!)
Sure there's danger- vinyl chairs, sunburns, chaffage... and lawn darts? Completely out of the question.
(Watch out now!)
Your keen instincts tell you to stick to activities that involve lots of bouncing and jiggling. And if that doesn't work, who cares? You're all naked.
(It's your birthday!)
So crack open an ice-cold Bud Light, nudie boy, because we all know, when the going gets tough, the tough get naked.
(Mr. Nudist Colony Activity Coordinator)
But seriously....thanks Ken :applaud:

When I first started, Ken helped me from electrocuting myself with his monitor advice. He has always had an answer for every question I ask him. Ken is one of the greatest resources we have and great guy.
Three cheers for Ken

Enjoy reading his posts.
Gave me some good specific advice on power requirements.
Always respect what he got to say.

Awwww.... now I'm blushing. :-[ I appreciate all the nice comments. Thank you very much.
I'll be away from my computer for a few hours today as I trek across town to repair an old 1959 Gottlieb "Queen of Diamonds" pinball machine for the guy who does my car repairs. My car ain't running so good (very weak to no charging is taking place) and he will check it out while I work on his pinball machine. It's been in his family almost 40 years and has not worked since 1970. I won't make any money on the deal, but I like fixing old pinball machines and this should be easy. I'm behind on rent and so far this month I've only taken in $100 for fixing an old 1935 Mills slot machine. I'm broke.
-
Good luck with debts man and thanks for all the help you've given everyone over the time.
Rock on.
-
Huzzah for Ken! Everytime you post a tiny Marv Albert in my head says "YES!"
-

Dude that sux. I am sorry. Hopefully the pin repair for auto repair swap will help with the $ woes. Noting worse than being broke and having car issues pop up.
-
That sucks, Ken. I really hate to hear that. Can you get a job at Home Depot or somewhere like that until something in the arcade market pops up?
-
Ken has been helpful, even to me, the newb to the boards.
:notworthy: Hope you stick around :) Your help and time are greatly appreciated!
-
Ken's the man.....
He ID'd a monitor for me once....
-
I initially thought this was a thread re to the former Enron CEO :)
-
ditto. I'll have a brewsky for Ken tonight. Cheers to a legend! :applaud:

Whoo hoo....I got a call today for some work....although just for one day. I need the money and rent is due. I'll be gone all day Thursday and will be at the Blue Fox Drive-in Theater (Oak Harbor, Wash.) fixing their projection equipment and then they have 5 or 6 of their 30 video arcade games they want fixed. They say the games they need repaired have monitor problems. There's also a Rowe Bill changer they want me to check.
They even mentioned they'd put me up in a hotel room Thursday night. I should be back home Friday afternoon.
-
Looks like I'm heading up the rear on this thank you wagon. Just wanted to say I appreciate all the help you've given both me and everybody else on the boards. We need to download your brain and create a torrent.
-
I've personally been helped on two occasions with advice from Ken. I don't think there's anything about game repair that the man doesn't know. He's one of the greatest assets to the BYOAC boards.
Thanks for all you've contributed. :applaud:
-
Well, I worked on 3 of their redemption machines there at the drive-in theater. Keep in mind that I've never worked on a redemption game in my life. Got 2 of the 3 going and I brought the main board back home with me from the third machine as it had two bad driver transistors that were unobtainable out there in the sticks of Oak Harbor, Wash.
I got 3 of the 5 video monitors fixed with just the tools at hand. Two of the monitors were unfixable as the circuit boards had been stolen right off the monitor frames!
I got 2 of the 3 pinball machines running with some parts from Radio Shack, but the third machine had some broken parts that need to be ordered from a Williams pinball distributor.

Probably by someone on this very board. ;)
