Title: how many pinball buttons do i really need?

2 or 3 each side? plus one shooter

i have seen some pll have 2 pinball buttons per side (flipper and tilt), other have 3 buttons per side.

what are that extra button for?

I did 2 per side, 1 for the flipper and 1 for nudge.

Some notable games (Black Knight, BK2000) also had extra buttons on the side for features like the Magna-Lock ball saver... I can't see why you'd need more than 2, I plan to just have one myself.

Aren't there games that used independant buttons for the upper and lower flippers?  Seems like I played a real pin that was setup that way back when, but maybe I'm off my nut here.

No your right. I remember playing a few tables that had 2 buttons per side. Can't remember what they were though.
