Title: Imonex Token Mech - Adjust for nickles?
Post by: MonMotha on April 19, 2006, 08:54:42 pm
I have an Imonex coin mech model 860 (900-25) "Contin-U-Op" that takes nickle weight brass tokens (the style Namco uses).  I'd like to have it take nickles, but I can't even find any mention of this model on Imonex's website and there are no obvious ways to adjust it other than coin diameter, which is set reasonably for nickles.

Any hints on how I might go about adjusting this to nickles, if that's even possible?

I would strongly suggest contacting tech support at Imonex. I've heard they have some conversion kits that retrofit some models to allow acceptance of other denominations.

Most of the conversion kits I've seen are for higher end models to take golden dollars, but I can give them a call I guess.

I did figure out how the mech works (it's remarkably simple, checking coin diameter only) and I can get it to accept nickles with some scotch tape with the caveat that it will sometimes start accepting pennies if the tape gets loose.  It doesn't look like it would be easily retrofittable to anything else, though I guess a custom plastic piece could be glued in place.

It may be cheaper to just buy a nickle mech, especially if I can actually find one used.
