Title: Need someone to do some artwork for me...
Post by: Blacksmith on April 19, 2006, 08:03:16 pm
OK guys, I give!  I have ideas, but little or no skill.  I've tried my hand at vectoring, but its not as easy as I thought it would be.  Anyway, I have a sit-down driver cab, (San Francisco Rush The Rock) that I stripped, painted, and installed new T-molding on.  This cab was gutted when I got it.  I am converting it into an Xbox racing game.  I'm just finishing up the big stuff now and its all gonna come down to some artwork.  I 'don't have any grand ideas for art, but I'm kind of set on naming the cab project.  Something like "Xtreme Racing" with major emphasis on the X as in xbox.  The cab is basic black with the neon green tmold and if you are familiar with the rush the rock cabinet it comes with the same neon green monitor surround.  (kind of like a car's dashboard)  I'm looking for someone that can help a brother out with some art for a guy with a budget enforcing wife that is on her last nerve with the arcade projects!  Seriously though, I need some pro help from one of you guru's.  Contact me and I can forward pics of the cab in its present, artless, state.
Thanks.

IIRC, somebody did a racing car in green.  It might be up at the local arcade site.  Should be a good start.  Maybe do the green one in front with a couple recolored (but same vehicle) ones behind it.  Kind of like a NASCAR scene but not NASCAR cars.

Wasn't it a Skyline?

My only question is why the one random car going the other direction?  I like them all coming out of the marquee better..  But it's not my cab  :)

Looks great other than that!  :)

Oh man, you gotta be kidding me...that is so freakin' awesome that I'm speechless!  Outstanding job.  I have one question though.  I have two or three bolts that hold the monitor brackets on each side of the cabinet side.  I would like to see all of the awesome artwork that you have done and not have the important stuff covered up by the bolt heads.  If I can get you some exact measurements of their location can you make sure that the "X", the flag, and the lettering are not getting covered by the bolt heads?

I seriously thought it said TREME RACING until I read the OP, then checked again. It needs to read easier.

Unless you print these in an RGB printer, these greens will come out greyish, since the colors are way out of CMYK gamut. My advice: Don't print these on the cheap.

That looks real sharp.  Nice work Snaake!

Would love to have something like that driving cab as I love driving games... :hissy:

:applaud:OK guys.  Just got my side art and marquee from Scott at mame marquees.  They look mint!  First off, Snaake did a great job on this art for me.  I would highly recommend his services.  Thanks again Snaake!  And, if you guys are getting artwork printed, Scott is the man.  I have yet to put the sideart on my cab, but I just pulled it out of the box and it came out great.  Hopefully applying it on the cab won't be too difficult.  (don't want to make a costly mistake)  I'll post a pic of the artwork an the cab as soon as I get it mounted.  I'm coming down the home stretch on this cab and hope to be done soon.

Wow! Amazing!

Snake, how much do you charge?  By the hour or what?

neh not by the hour. it depends on the work..usually very little to nothing. I like doing this though..especially this one cuz its something totally different from everything else I worked on in the past. I had the "cars coming through a tunnel with light" idea for a racer cab but never got around building it.

While I haven't actually received my artwork yet, I would concur that SNAAKE's rates are quite reasonable and he is very easy to deal with.

Thanks.  The feedback that I have recieved so far has been very positive.  My intent throughout this entire project was to create a game that the average person off of the street would think is something that was originally bought from a vendor from the factory.  I did not want anyone to think that the game was "home made" in any way.  I have tried to hide any of my modifications to the original cab so that upon first glance you really would not know that this game was not an original arcade game.  For instance,
the sound comes from a five speaker surround system in which the subwoofer/power supply is located inside of the gutted coin door.  So along with the cool looking original cabinet architecture, the great artwork from Snaake, and the ability to play unlimited xbox driving games, this was a pretty cool project to do and I believe that the look of it still holds true to something that you might have seen in an arcade.  Keep in mind though that I'm still not finished with it.  I'll be sure to post some pics when 100% done.
