Found this while researching PC DVR. Very nice option for all of you who want a remote control for your jukeboxes or whatever...

I have a firefly mini and find it is a bit simpler for jukebox controls the regular unit which has alot more keys and it more htpc or multimedia oriented.  The mini is also IR onlly not RF.

With a generic IR receiver and uIce you can use any remote that you want for remote control of your JB.   Working on a few variations right now to see what works best.  Girder also works but is a bear to configure.

So far I still like the creative remote that is smaller than a credit card for functionality.

I have Beyond TV and the firefly mini remote works flawlessly with it.

Is this generic IR receiver a homebrew thing or off the shelf?

Firefly is an off the shelf RF type controller.  The firefly mini is a USB connected IR type controller.  The old creative unit is a credit card sized IR controller that used to come with creative DVDs and has a generic serial IR receiver.
