Title: Mamewah 1.62 issue
Post by: ppilot on April 19, 2006, 11:25:48 am
I decided to upgrade from 1.61 to 1.62.  It's been pretty smooth, but one problem I just cannot figure out, and haven't been able to find addressed anywhere.

I made the change on my desktop computer, no problem.  Copied my mamewah directory to a USB key and transferred it to arcade machine #1, no problem.  Transferred to arcade machine #2 and get the following problem.

If I bring up the options menu, there is no category for 'Platform' or 'Theme'.  If I run directly from the USB key, everything works fine.  If I change the option in the mamewah config manually it brings up the different platforms, so it seems to recognize them; just can't find them in the 'options' menu.  I only have one hard drive on the machine, and have tried copying to various places, deleting and repeating, etc. but I can't seem to get it to work.  Is there something on my 'C' drive or in the registry that is mucking this up?

Hoping someone can help.  Thanks!

Check the attributes of all files/folder within the mamewah folder.  Maybe for some reason it is different on machine #2.

Also, there are a few little bugs I've recently found in the menu, although it shouldn't prevent you doing anything as long as it is properly set up.

You only seem to have one theme (jcrouse), which explains why there is no 'Select Theme' option.  Not sure about the platform tho...

Try re-downloading and extracting (using WinZip) mamewah.exe - some other decompression tools have been known to mess up the exe and cause very similar problems.

I might add something to the log in future to show the enumeration of platforms/list/themes etc. to show if things are somehow being 'missed'.  Also, I need to ensure file attibutes don't play a part.

Thanks Minwah.  Actually, theme shows up under all my other machines.  When I key it, it says 'jcrouse' and 'default'.  Any other thoughts?

I should have asked before...are you using the latest beta (v1.62b10) ??

In short...if you have checked all I've mentioned then I can't think of anything else...all I can suggest is you double check the file attributes etc - have a play and see if it makes any difference.

I'll try to add some extra info to the log for the next beta which should make it easier to diagnose.

Yep, 1.62b10.  If I'm understanding you properly, all of the files have the 'archive' attribute set (on all of the machines) so I don't think that's a problem (I'm assuming you were thinking the 'read-only' one was on?).

I guess I'll just wait until the next beta comes out and try it again.  Thanks for your help.

Yes, ensure 'archive' is set, and read-only and hidden are not set.  Sorry can't be much more help until I add some things in...let me know how you get on with the next beta.
