Title: Free?: 2 (possibly) Abandoned cockpit cabs [East Haven, CT]
Post by: nipsmg on April 19, 2006, 08:51:47 am
Not 100% positive about this one, but...

In East Haven, CT on Coe Avenue, about 1/2 mile from the water, there are 2 cockpit/sit down cabinets that are out on the curb.  They've been there for 3 days.

1 Space Tactics full cockpit.  Controls are still in it.  Not sure if there's a monitor. Looks to be in really good condition.

1 Sega Touring F1 Sit down cabinet, controls still intact.  Decals look like crap but cabinet looks in great shape besides that.

This guy also has one sitting on his porch that I saw him working on the first day I drove by and spotted them.

I'm not 100% sure these are trash, but I can't imagine someone leaving them out on the sidewalk for 4 days if he intended to keep them.

Every other time I've driven by he's either not been home, or it's been far too late to go knocking.

I live in a 1BR apartment now so I have no room for them, but I figured if someone in the area wanted to go check them out and ask, here's the heads up.

Damn, wish I was closer. I have a Space Tactics cab, and could use a couple of parts off it. 3 hour drive one way isn't worth it. I'm probably better off, since I really should just buy new t-molding, and hopefully Novus works as good as people say to clean up all the scratches in the plexi that makes up the "viewscreen."

Hmmm...
I'll be in East Haven this afternoon (live in Branford), and I just happen to be driving my pickup truck today... sounds like a sign from some higher power.
Speaking of higher powers, I'd have to clear this with the wife as well....

If I can catch the owner at home I'll stop and ask if they're available.

Does East Haven have bulk trash pickup? That's the only reason I can imagine for leaving them at the curb.

Wow, if that SEGA cab is what I think it is, I'd kill to have one of those to build a driving rig out of!

Well the space tactics cab is gone, only a monitor and some parts lying on the curb in its place.  Did you pick that up?

Well, the seat looks exactly like this:

but it's not a HUGE monitor and enclosure like that, it's 27" monitor (I think) and a smaller cabinet to go with it.

When I drove by there were a group of guys loading the Space Tactics into a small truck, I figured they were taking both cabs since there were 2 pickup trucks parked at the curb. I just wiped the tears from my eyes and drove on by.

Is the Sega cab still there? Even if I decide I can't use it I'd like to rescue it in case someone else needs it.

Stopped by during lunch, nobody around to ask whether or not it's junk. I can't imagine any other explaination, but I wasn't willing to risk arrest by just dragging it into the back of my truck without asking first.

NipsMG, if you pass this place on a regular basis can you keep an eye out for the owner and see if we have his OK to take the beast? I've been kicking around the idea of building a driver and this might be a good head start.

I'll try, but my issue is that I'm at work at 7:00AM and not home until at the EARLIEST 9:30PM due to Work, School and other constraints, I'm NEVER HOME, I just drive by at 6:30AM on my way to work. :-/

If i see him on the weekend or something I'll try to stop but I'm not around much then either :-/

Next time you pass by, leave a note on it w/ your phone number on it or something maybe?! :)

If it's next to the curb it's trash, if its next to the garage outside it's soon to be trash but you gotta wait....

If it were any closer to the curb it would be in the road, but it still doesn't seem right to pull up in front of the guys house and start hauling stuff away without explicit permission.
It's just started raining here for the first time in weeks - I guess it's now or never.

If it's on the curb, you really don't need it spelled out for you.  It's there to be hauled away.  Either by you, someone else, or the trashman.

agreed completely. You don't put something you want to hold onto on the curb.  Beside a garage maybe, behind gates obviously... IN the shed or garage, of course.... but not on the curb.

Just go grab that thing :)
