Title: Ms. Pacman Cocktail Restoration
Post by: Clonedsheep on April 13, 2006, 04:33:14 pm
Oh Yeah, Scored a Cocktail Ms. Pacman cocktail last night by a dumpster (only the best for me)

The Good:

- PCB boards inside
- Coin door (no mechs)
- Underlay looks clean but wrinkled and has a split on one side
- Coin counter
- Control panels look great and clean.

The Bad:  :'(

- The wooden sides are splintering and warped at the bottom.
- The monitor has so much burn in it looks like it is on
- no glass
- Spiders with fangs and venom

The Reality:  :-\

- Will have to replace wooden sides (cut by myself)
- new wood grain Veneer
- glass replacement
- PBC board test (Repair if needed)
- New Monitor
- Mechs for coindoor
- T-molding

Questions:  :blah:

- How deep have other BYOACers gone to restore?
- Better to find a newer project in better condition?
- I am thinking I can do with with $300-400
- what type of particle board is the original?
- Graylight #14 tinted glass? how thick?

I want everything original. I have scratch build a Lucid style cab and I am very pleased so far (painted soon) so i think i am OK with my tools. I am thinking that this unit was garaged because it has moisture/water damage at the bottom but it is pretty free of thick dust. I plan to document everything with pics and description. The before pics are coming soon. I was not expecting this but have told myself that I am only building 1 generic Mame cabinet and then original from here on. Where do I start guys?

What are you going to do with the spiders?  If they are black widows keep them and every so often drain some venom and keep it all in a jar you never know when it might come in handy.

Nice man, Wish I could but I have to do this piece by piece right now. I don't have much cashola for this right now. :'( I was thinking of buying a sheet of matching veneer and cutting a couple of replacement sides. The rest I will piece over time. I was not really expecting this. I am supposed to be restoring my 1963 cadillac.

You talked be into it.  I'll restore the cabinet. You ship the caddy my direction and we'll call it even.

I'm in the same boat. Too many projects... not enough time and not even enought money.

I'm going to be restoring a Pac-Man. You got the most expensive parts already: the boards. Finding an empty gutted table should be cheap.

Cool, Yeah I'm going to go through it this weekend hopefully. If I'm unable to get the monitor going does anyone know where I could get the boards tested?
