Hi all, been working on this cabinet for a couple of weeks now and thought I would post it to get some feedback. There are a couple of things I wish I had done differently, but it's only my first and there will no doubt be a second. Firstly I should have used thicker MDF as I can't find any edge moulding for this stuff (9mm) - any links to any suitable moulding appreciated! Secondly a bigger screen, I thought 21" would be enough but it looks a bit small now the surround is on, and thirdly the CP should be a bit higher or cabinet a bit lower IMO.
Anyway that aside any feedback on the below would be good. :)

TV surround partly done, now the screen looks a bit small. :(
Have setup the following PC with Win98 and AdvanceMenu:
Athlon XP2200+
512MB PC2700
20GB HDD (just about enough)
Radeon 7500
Am waiting on delivery of controls and acrylic sheet for the front and CP.
Comments welcome. :)

I'm jealous of that workshop! ;)
How long did it take you to get this far?
-
So far that's 2 weekends work, probably about 6hrs each day at least. Would have been giving it a play test this weekend if my controls had arrived! Ah well, still got lots of screw holes to fill. :)

Nice work room. Really rustic look to it. Oh yeay, nic work on the cab. How deep is the marquee holder? Is the CP attached? How will you wire it?
-
That shop is FREAGIN' SWEET. Congratulations on your cabinet.

Looks good.
Re: your monitor size regret: 21" TV is not too small, but the surround does make it look smallish. Your idea of moving the CP up a liottle more on your next one will help that problem a little bit. Its all a matter of perspective. The screen looks small because of the size of the surround.
Keep it p, and good luck with the rest!

Thanks for the comments all!

Marquee holder is about 7 inches. CP and most of the panels on the front are attached with bolts for easy removal.
A few more pics from today below. I cut some holes for a pair of 120mm fans, the power inlet, PC power buttons and speakers and gave it a coat of primer.

Will be doing the CP this weekend.

That sure is coming along nicely.
I'm stripping an old MKII cab and using that as my starting point. Tomorrow I'll be repainting it and I'm considering going with a blue color on one side that blends into red by the time it's on the other. I wonder if that's going to be too ambitious...
-
Hey, where did you find that power switch? That's cool.
-
Looks really nice!!
Since you think your CP is too low...do you have the measurements of your cabinet so that we (I) may not make the same mistake?
Thanks!

Thanks Darren, here are my measurements: http://chrix.woaf.net/mame/measurements.JPG
Hope they are of some use!

Chris,
Thank you for the measurements but I need the angles to be able to recreate your drawing. Either that or a measurement from the ground to the middle of the control panel...
I have my drawings in another thread (Doc's Modular) and I'll be cutting this weekend...I may make adjustments to the CP height based on your observation.
Thanks!!

I think I was able to figure out the measurement...I had to make some guesses but I think it's pretty close...935mm at the center. My CP is at 1006mm at center.
From what you are experiencing...is mine going to be high enough?
Thanks!

I guess it really depends on your height, i'm 6'3 and mine is a bit low for me but it's fine for other people. My best suggestion is to setup a table or something the same height from the floor and see if you feel comfortable playing imaginary games at that height. :)
-
I'm 6' 2" so you're probably a good example. :)
I think I have it though....I appreciate your help!!
