Title: AdvanceMame & WellsGardner U3100?
Post by: Carsten Carlos on February 27, 2003, 05:51:52 am
Anyone tried this? I wonder if AdvanceMame will create better resolutions for the U3100. (this is the arcade-VGA-monitor with 31.5 KHz)

I need to run it under Windows (for my USB-interface is only programmable with VisualBasic for me), and as I've currently only Win98 on my cab, I can't really try it out. ::)

Hey Carsten,

I use AdvanceMame DOS (yeah i know, you said windows... they do have a windows version too =P ) and use it with a PC monitor in my cab. The trick is configuring it/knowing your monitors specs and going through the advv config tool that lets you center/resize/adjust the picture for every resolution (and lets advmame know which resolutions are available for it to choose from).

The cool thing about Advance MAME IMHO is that once you get through the config it's a better than regular mame at choosing the "right"/best resolution for your setup.

What type of issues are you having with your monitor/setup?  It should work just like a PC monitor, no?)
YMMV

My actual problem (with MAME32, only for testing purposes as my cab is just build, still have to install a proper FE) I noticed that on some games like Scramble, Pacmania, Gorf the graphics is sometimes not moved completely while scrolling, you can see that there is sometimes a block that isn't moved fast enough.

As AdvanceMAME has more switches, I thought there might be something that I could do about it, also, I'd like to use as less hardwarestretching as possible.

The WellsGardner only up to 640x480, has only two horizontal scans (31.5 and 35.5 as far as I remember), so there are not that much resolutions available.

I wonder if advancemame will find some more, or if I just start using the normal MAME-commandlinebased version for windows.

Actually I can't try AdvanceMame out as I've installed Win98 instead of W2K/XP as it needs for full resolution-support.

As I said, DOS isn't an option for me, I need to add my visualbasic-code, and my USB-interface.

That's an effect called "tearing"  To stop it you merely turn on vsync and optionally sync to refresh.
