Post by: jcroach on April 07, 2006, 11:55:01 am
The  :censored: at my office installed Barracuda Spyware Firewall. The  :censored: content filter is keeping me off of mame.net and mameworld.net  They call Mame.net "illegal activity"!

 :badmood: :banghead:  :censored: :dizzy: :hissy:

So much for my "breaks".  Maybe I'll have to do real work now...................

There are ways and means around everything, try one of the following:-
Install Real VNC at home and on a USB pen, get your IP address then access your home PC from work with the viewer on your USB pen so you can view pagesusing your home computer at work.
Use a URL encoder that messes with the URL so the content filter doesn't know how to block it.
I also read that typing in the hex address for the website as an alternative is possible as well.

If all else fails quit work. ;D

Oh well, at least you can still get on BYOAC, at least I hope you can!

Its the same at my work, I cannot get on mameworld either.

At college I cannot get on mameworld, BYOAC or any of the other forums i use.  :hissy:

Anyone would think that they want me to do some work!  :)

Thanks for the tips!

I don't have a broadband connection at home, so this would be difficult.

Use a URL encoder that messes with the URL so the content filter doesn't know how to block it.

Can you point me to a URL encoder on the web?

I also read that typing in the hex address for the website as an alternative is possible as well.

How do I find out the hex address for a site?

If all else fails quit work. ;D

I've been thinking about it, but not becuase of this :P!

Here's a website on some workarounds:-

I'm not sure how you find out a websites IP address rather than url but if can get it then it seems to work as shown by the example on the page above.

Edit as I remember about this

I find it very funny that people complain about internet filters at work.  How much are you paying for the use of it?  You should ask for a refund.

The cost isn't the issue, its the fact that the Thought Police are telling you what you can and can't look at.
Blocks on adult content are fair do's but when gaming sites are blocked it's just petty especially when I know that the IT staff are busy playing internet radio all day and Doom3 at lunchtime.

It's their pipe, no?  It's their computer, no?  You don't think they should have the right to control what you do with their internet connection and their computer?

I just tried pimpmyip.com at work but it blocked the website under 'annonymous proxie'.   :hissy: Looks like they have that covered too. They really do want me to do some work. Anyone would think that they are paying me!  ;D
