i went to a local hardware store and asked if they sold lexan they showed me plexi glass where would a person buy such a thing?
-
Track down a local plastics reseller...
Try local.google.com and enter something like "plastics, city, state"
Or try in the "what" box: "category: Plastic Products Finished Retail" and enter your location in the where box.

Ditto (although I don't remember the price). And they only sell it in that one size.
Locating it in the store is the fun part.

how thick is this home depot lexan?
-
The Lexan I got at Home Depot was about 1/8".

Mine was exactly 1/8". That's all they carried.
Might want to try a glass place if you want something special. You can get 1" Lexan but it's very expensive. The point is, they make it, and you can get it. But not at Home Depot.

Here's some of my sources:
For the 3/32" I just go to home depot. It's by the lumber area. This is the ideal thickness for control panels (covering the overlay).
For 1/8" and up; http://freckleface.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/polycarbonatesheet.html (http://freckleface.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/polycarbonatesheet.html)
Also check ebay for cutoffs. It's where I get most of my 3/8" polycarbonate for router sub-bases.

Nullboy, I seem to remember your in the Motor City? Hit any Henderson Glass, they should be able to hook you up with a "drop" in either 1/8 or 1/4 at a resonable price.
-
yep westland to be exact
whats a "drop" in?
-
try McMaster Carr Supply www.mcmaster.com they have all types of plastic, the stuff they carry is called polycarbonate, which is basically the same thing as lexan, which is much stronger than acrylic.

FYI LEXAN AND PLEXIGLASS ARE BRANDS OF POLYCARBONATE.
