Can anyone tell me if this is even possible or if they have done this before? I'm looking at a working Outrun upright:

Could this be MAMEd with the use of an ArcadeVGA and JPAC to make a dedicated MAME driving cab? I guess my question is, how do the controls (steering, shifter and pedals) work, and do they need anything special for MAME to recognize them (considering they would be connected via the JPAC). Wondering if everything was hooked up if MAME would recognize the controls?
Any thoughts or information would be appreciated.....
Thanks.

I built a driving cab myself. You'll need an opti-pac to wire in the steering wheel anyways. Acutally, the more I think of it, that's probably an analog steering wheel, right? If so then you won't need the optipac.
I used the "Lew's Wheels" hack to wire in the Pole Position analog pedal that I picked up off of EBAY. You could also use this to hack the analog steering wheel I believe.

I use a hacked version of MAME with a small change that tells MAME how to handle the shifter in Pole Position. (I have a 2 position one that I got off Ebay as well.)
My 2 cents.

Thanks for the info....I'm guessing that this wheel is not analog. I MAMEd an empty Pole Position cab, and that was analog ( I used a mouse to interface the Steering wheel...with Oscar's help). Like I said, I'm not sure but I'm thinking this isn't analog.
I'd like to have a driving cab for non-analog driving games, like Chase HQ.
Again, thanks for the reply.

...with Oscar's help
I've been doing a lot of reading through through the old posts before asking any noob questions and I see the above statement pops up quite a bit.
So does Oscar generally just help everyone with everything?? :)

Oscar is one of the most helpful people around this board....we're lucky to have him here.....
I bought a Spinner from him, and it's been great. When I screwed it up, he walked me how to repair it. He offered to repair it himself for nothing, but it was quicker to walk me thru it.
On the Pole Position project, I sent him some questions with photos of the mouse PCBs I was using. He answered with detailed notes on the photos....it was so helpful I can't begin to tell you.

Wow, that's great! You don't run across people like that on message boards very often. I guess I already know where I'm buying my spinner from when it comes time!
