Only been waiting for 16 years. Rumours and more rumours and nothing. Nothing. nothing.
But Yesterday, I went to Ice Age with my son. The lights dimmed and I was treated to many lousy bits trailers for movies I would never go watch, as I had pretty much been handed the movie in the preview.
But Then...
the screen went dark. I heard a familiar voice, but was slow to place it. and then...And Then... And THEN MY FRIENDS...
HOMER JAY SIMPSON OVER 10 FEET TALL. It was so grand I nearly got chills. Starwars 1,2,3 pure stupidity. LOTR... Mere childs play. This is the friggin SIMPSONS flicking onto our little glassballs at 24 beautiful frames per second in heart thumping 7.1 surround. Can I get a Hallaluiah and an AMEN My Brothaz and Sistaz!!!

Rumors turned to definite lead times on this months ago.... :P
I'm super excited also, but it's been announced for a real long time now. Now we just need to wait it out until July 2007
-
Halleluiah, AMEN :applaud:
-
They also played the movie "trailer" on tonights episode of Simpsons. It was awesome, but told nothing about the movie other then the release date. On the episode commentaries, from the tv show dvds, they mention a mention plans for a movie a couple of times, but they also said they planned on doing the movie once the show was cancelled. I guess they got tired of waiting.
-
Please cancel this show NOW. The last several years have sucked. I watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition now.
A Simpsons movie will flop since the show has run out of fresh ideas.
-
They are contracted to season 19. They should have ended at season 12 at the latest. Kill it now. Its not even funny anymore :lame:
-
all i hear is :blah: :blah: :blah:
New simpsons are great.
-

Bite yer tounge Layton ;)
It seems like they have gotten a little thin on ideas. They have tried to go extreme which is sad as they were once THE extreme. But after 16 years I am a loyal fan and continue to watch. I used to watch when they were just shorts on Tract Ulman.
I have to imagine. Well I am hoping that with a movie, they will pull out the best stuff. You know that it will be chock full of cameos. I heard that the hold up on the movie up till now is that Lisa would not sign off on a script, and Barney wanted to much $. Matt Groening reminded both of them that they were cartoons and they settled down.
-

He's right. The show does suck now, They got nothing left to work with. Hmm, lets see what part of the world they will go to next

The Simpsons go to Iraq and step on a land mine & blow up killing them all.
Futurama and Family Guy are a hundred times better than the Simpsons.

I agree, but I still love the Simpsons, even if they have lost quite a bit over the years. They are contracted to Season 19, and my guess is they will go to 20 and stop. It just seems like a good way out, even if by year 20 they may even lose some more of "that thing" that made them great.
And on the Futurama note, I can't wait until the 3 movies come out (I think it was 3). Either way... any new Futurama is better than nothing, although I really wish they'd resurrect it like Family Guy.
-
I agree that the Simpsons has jumped the shark, but I still usually find them pretty funny. I think for their last few seasons they need to have a new character which is a little green flying martian that grants wishes and only homer can see or hear.
Having grown up with the simpsons I can't help but be excited about a Simpsons movie. I'm sure if they get all their best writers together to make it, then it will be hilarious.
-
Maybe they can resurrect Phil Hartman to do some voices. They either need to stop now or bring on a whole new writing staff.
-
So it's cool to Simpsons-bash now? Wow. The times, they are a-changin.
I still watch it religiously. It's touch and go. Half the new episodes are genuinely funny, half are mostly lame. Last Sunday's, with grandpa as a bull fighter was pretty lame.
-
No,the simpsoms is crap-it was funny about 10 years ago,now its just a childrens show(with bad attitude),talk about flog a dead horse
-
I thought I was the only one... :'( Good to see others agree with me.
I think it really hit rock bottom with the gay marriage episode. Who's with me on that? It's not the issue that I had the problem with, just the episode itself. Imagining Homer kissing himself is humorous. Actually WATCHING it is kinda disturbing. That and the rest of that episode just didn't have much funny moments.
Yup, that episode last night wasn't that great either.
Some of my favorites involved either Duffman or Mr. Burns. (My two fave characters.)
-
Every sunday since I can remember I have sat down on my couch to watch The Simpsons and I have enjoyed every episode. The Simpsons will never die! I wish the year for the movie was 2006 not 2007, but this should give them plenty of time to develop an awesome movie.
Anyone figured out where they live yet?
-

:laugh2: According to the commercial, India! :laugh2:

Anyone figured out where they live yet?
Um duh... Springfield. ;D
Ok all you nay sayers. The simpsons are family. We laughed we cried we strangled our sons because homer made it look fun. I think that they will step up to the plate and give us a show. Well put it this way. If I only had 7 bucks and I got to go see intro to scientology um I mean MI:3, or the simpsons movie, Homer get's it over Tom any day.
BTW did anyone see the one where you got to see the simpsons in the future? Lisa could go on the cheesecake thread. ;D ok perhaps not.
-
woooo hooooo
I will go see it
-
me too
-
Don't get me wrong, i've loved the simpsons for years and attempted to relate simpsons to real life. As well, I've quoted just about every line. The new episodes are lacking, it's to bad connan o' brian dosent write for them any more. I will go se the movie, i'm just not going to get my hopes up. I wonder what the movie would be like if it was uncensored, like the south park movie?
-
I'll take the Simpsons over any of those dreadful "family" sitcoms the networks keep churning out.
-
I wonder what the movie would be like if it was uncensored, like the south park movie?
You know, I really hope not. I don't need to hear Bart yell "no... F@c& You miss Crabapple", or hear Smithers say "Monty, I want to F@c& you like an animal" It would just be wrong.
south park from the start was a group of foul mouthed kids. You knew that they talked like that. The Simpsons have never eluded to such language. I think that is why DOOP is funny. It is an anyword. When I was at Full Sail back in 93' you had a school full of Simpsons fans (scary). 2 times every year the whole school would be pulled into a single meeting for a few weeks when they had special speakers. If there were foul ups or technical glitches (and there always were) you had several hundred wise asses yelling Doop!. I am sure it was a "had to be there" sort of thing.

This thread makes me ashamed of the BYOAC community. :(
The Simpsons might not be as funny as they were a few years ago, but they're still frackin' hilarious, and way better than that half-assed knockoff Family Guy.

Yes, Springfield is the city they live in, but where is this city on a map. They have been dropping subtle hints as to where they are located and I think it would be neat if Fox did another Who Shot Mr. Burns? event so we could figure out where they are located. Some information I have gathered is Springfield's elevation is 1,582ft above sea level and the population of Springfield is 30,720.

Springfield is supposed to be "Anytown, USA" according to the creators. Supposedly they picked the name because it is the most common name for a city in America. How else could they be 1,582ft above sea level, have an ocean harbor, a giant gourge, and a mountain all in the same town? There is one real Springfield which is right next to a town called Shelbyville (which is also the neighboring town in the show) and a lot of people think that is the actual Springfield, but I don't believe there is an actual Springfield.

Rick Springfield?

huzzah! i havent watched the simpsons much lately but a movie would be fun. i like going to the movies (witness my review of 'worlds fastest indian).
now, dont quote me on it, but im fairly certain that film is run at more than 24 fps nowadays. i seem to recall hearing that 'planet of the apes' was one of the last to be shot in 24 and '2001, a space oddysey' was one of the first in 30 (or whatever speed it was).
-
Technically though this is not the first simpsons movie, they have made 3 IIRC for the Imax Cinemas :P ::)
but this is good news anyway
-
I don't think I've watched any new episodes of The Simpsons in the last four years, but I love the old seasons (apart from the first two which really stink compared to the rest). Before I moved to the US I watched it almost every day- it used to be shown on about 4 of our standard 9 channels every day back in Ireland. I'll definetly go to see this though, and maybe I'll try to catch up on the last few seasons.
On a related note, does anyone know if the new Futurama DVD that was mentioned someplace last year is ever going to happen?

Film today is 24 FPS. TV is roughly 30 (29.97)fps. Stupid drop frame (said in your best homer)

They are working on a number of direct-to-DVD movies. I believe there are 3, but I'm not 100% sure. They are still in the works and moving along as far as I've read.
Billy West announced a bunch of new episodes on his forum recently, but that turned out to be incorrect. He did confirm that the DVDs were still being made though.
I still wish they'd resurrect Futurama. It was soooooo good.

All those cities are the same place, though - see here (http://web.archive.org/web/20050303002920/www.flat-earth.org/platygaea/springfieldparadox.html)!

The Simpsons might not be as funny as they were a few years ago, but they're still frackin' hilarious, and way better than that half-assed knockoff Family Guy.
I don't really think that Family Guy is more of a knockoff than it tries to be. Yeah, family guy is also mostly based around a dim-witted father and episodes that have a plot that goes on a tangent every few minutes...but the whole comedy style is different. Family guy is based on parodying television, and everything that goes on in the show tries to make fun of televison moments and cliches.
Simpsons definitely developed their own comedy style, while family guy tends to more parody everything around it, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a half-assed knockoff.
Also, going back to the comment by MYX about how it would not be the same if Simpsons were uncensored...I kinda think that family guy has often been not as funny lately because they have less censoring of what is on the show...these new seasons are funny, but sometimes I appreciate when shock value is not thrown into comedy.
Anyway...That's my 2 cents...Looking forward to the Simpsons movie...Hopefully it will be something grander than that mini movie family guy did...
-
I've never cared much for family guy, its alright, but not great IMO. And it looks like South Park agrees with me as they just had a whole episode (possibly a two part'er) about how they hate Family Guy. Also, heres an interesting website I just came across: http://familyguysteals.blogspot.com/

C'mon man!....if you were going to be ashamed of this commnity, I'm sure you could have picked a better thread than this one...plenty of perfectly good examples 'round here ......
Family Guy rocks!...maybe a clone of simpsons....but much improved version...IMHO

I have a hard time watching the Family guy dad. Having nuts for a chin and the resemblance of the other part as a nose is just wierd. He is a talking dick. :P
-

I would be surprised if that wasn't intended.
Also, it's:
D'oh!!!! Gotta have the apostrophe.
I love Family Guy, mainly because it lives off quirky flashbacks.
One of my favorite moments was the Indian casino episode (from the first season I believe.) When they're driving, and Peter has to go #2. Bad. He sees all those billboards, and the last one says something totally off the wall. And, we'll, if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. It's freaking hilarious.

Noted and adjusted.
You would think for a Simpsons fan I could spell the stuff. Then again, I always sucked at spelling.
I just saw Family Guy for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Stewie was having withdrawl from breast milk. It was pretty funny.
-
The Simpsons is pretty hit or miss these days. The current crop of writers seem to have this obsession with nonsensical loony-toons style sequences that just don't work for me. Still though, they turn out a good one every so often.
Honestly, I don't think Matt Groening gives a  about the simpsons anymore. Futurama was where his heart was but as usual, Fox in their infinite flakiness, cancelled it. When I think about Futurama, Family Guy (before it came back), Profit, Firefly, Kindred the Embraced, Space Above and Beyond (ok, space and kindred sucked, but in an entertaining way!) and the Ben Stiller show, I get the urge to find the various heads of programming at Fox and kick them squa'w in the nutz

Just to add something to your list of cancelled shows, I really liked the show Wonderfalls, although I might be alone in liking it.
-

I'd agree except for that one. I thought it was funny until I purchased the stiller show DVD collection. WOW, I don't know WHAT I thought was so funny about it. Actually, none of it is funny. (You're welcome to buy the DVDs off me. :D )
-
I'd like to take this list and move one series to the top of the heap. Arrested Development. Damn you Fox! :hissy:
So weird - I was just thinking about all the awesome shows that Fox has cancelled over the years.
-
Firefly was very good. I had hoped serenity would have resurrected it but it didnt which is sad.

Arrgg. I knew I had forgotten a big one! Arrested Development was a great show too!

I really hope he means "Doh" :).
"Doop" is from Futurama. It's like an intergalactic UN, as far as I can remember.
-
yeah, "Doop" stands for Democratic Order Of Planets if I remember (gotta love Futurama).

Yet he clearly was not referring to the Futurama quote. Its pretty clear he meant D'oh, but possibly just got it mixed up with the futurama phrase.

south park's retaliate against family guy was just lame... they led everyone to believe the producers were manatees! i mean come on? plus everyone on southpark liked family guy, just not cartman for a reason he never made clear... if i say one thing i say southpark is dead... simpsons is closer.... but family guy is still pretty fresh.
-
I'll take Simpsons, South Park, AND Family Guy over mindless drek like Hope & Faith (http://www.tv.com/hope-and-faith/show/17012/reviews.html&review_id=152441&flag=&order=).
