Title: worlds fastest indian
Post by: danny_galaga on April 01, 2006, 05:17:31 am
no this is not a racist joke! I just went and saw the movie 'worlds fastest indian'. it was excellent! its the true story of a guy from new zealand, Burt Munro who took his modified 1920 indian scout motorbike (which he bought new!) to bonneville in the 60's and ended up breaking all sorts of speed records. in fact his record for fastest streamlined, under 1000cc motorbike set in 1967 still stands! All the more amazing when you think about the fact that he was retired and on a pension and had no crew at all! stars anthony hopkins as munro and is filmed in NZ and Utah. Was a very heart-warming flick about personal acheivement and also, if you even have a passing interest in fast cars and bikes particularly from the 60's you can't miss this. Some lovely eye candy. It's not a big release movie but look out for it...

oh, heres the films site:

I live in Utah.  The salt flats are crazy -- like being on an alien planet.

Old thread. But i just bought the special edition DVD. This has the original documentary by the director on the second dvd. Filmed in the 70's. The director then went to hollywood and made good, directing movies like Cocktail, Species and Dantes Peak.

I just watched the documentary 'Burt Munro: Offerings to the God of Speed' , and it brought a huge smile on my face. Just amazing to see this guy, in his 70's, who rides speed record breaking bikes that he builds from scratch.

Once again, if you have even the most passing interest in motorsports of any kind, you would do well to see this movie, and especially try to get the special so you can watch the documentary.

the doco gets 5/5, as does the movie (",)

Quote
my score for recent movies you may have seen:

5/5 - Michael Clayton, In Bruges, Gran Torino, Mary and Max

4.5/5 - Taken, Iron Man, Reign Over Me

4/5 - Traitor, Bedtime Stories, Sunshine, pineapple express

3.5/5 - 300, Max Payne, You dont mess with the Zohan, Yes Man

3/5 - That new Indiana Jones flick, Disturbia, That new TMNT flick,

2.5/5 - Angels and Demons

2/5 - The Love Guru. Note: My 2 is probably someone elses 1. Just leaving room for worse!

Thanks for bringing this to the top of my "to see" list..... excellent, excellent, excellent movie.

Had only caught pieces of it years ago, glad I've watched the whole thing uninterrupted now.

He's in Miami now I believe.  But he's from Utah originally.

And, yes it does.

I saw this when it was released on DVD, but not the documentary.  I'll have to see if I can find it.  Definitely a good movie.

I hadn't seen the documentary either.
But just knowing it was based on a true story made it that much cooler.

I remember one kind of cool thing about the documentary and movie is that some of the dialog for the main character in the movie was pulled word for word from what the actual guy said in the documentary.
