Title: how to delete pages?
Post by: Space Fractal on March 31, 2006, 06:24:12 pm
How to delete old pages (maily because titel spelling or moving)?

It about these pages:

"Arcade Music Box 2" (was renamed to "Arcade Music Box")
"Arcade Jukebox 8" (was renamed to "Arcade Jukebox 8")
"VirtualMusicJukebox" (was renamed to "Virtual Music Jukebox")
"DOS_vs_Windows" (was renamed to "PC Operating System Comparison")

More can come, but by now, all are now just redirected to the new page.

I think only Woogie can do that, so you've gotta mark the page with the Delete tag.  Just like the Cleanup tag, only it says "Delete" instead

I agree, I think the redirect for something like that "feels" sloppy

GunCon2 had that deleting tag over many weeks, without deletion. But this one do need need to been deletion, because some people may try to find it with search or the complete article overview.

It would been fine if some of us could delete unused pages, like the 3-4 ones. Im dosent need to show my own jukebox software twice here....

The same problem could "arcade montitor" so it dosen't show twice on that page, but this had a another reason.

Well this should let Woogie know about it.  He had mentioned something about a bot, but I dunno what or how that worked.

Mebbe someone else will have an idea.  I coulda swore I was able to delete a page at one point, but I coulda been wrong

I haven't gotten the bot going yet. Just make sure to use the delete markup and I'll get around to them. Only the moderators and admins can delete things from the Wiki

I have just added {{delete}} tags on all cadidates. All have renamed oneor other way.

GunCon2 was delete caditate to, but some people may like to find it via the "all article page" about GunCon2, so here the redirect is better (so I diddent add the {{delete}} tag.

NB. I have renamed links on the other page, so it reflect that changes.

Siirwoogie, delete is bot-controlled?

If so, are the following things concidered:
Does the delete check the "what links here" page? If an article is deleted and other pages link to it, you will probably end up by someone making that article again (to get rid of the red links).
What happens when someone puts up a {{delete}} tag on a page that shouldn't be deleted, how can others revert that change?

Hady yall,
Is there a way to just change the name of a page?
I made a Happs Electronics, not Happs Controls.
Do I have to delete, then re-add?

If so, that seems like a crock. But then again, perhaps I just like to use the word crock.

Done!  Not sure if everyone can do it or just admins. You have to use the "Move" tab. Happ Electronics now auto-refreshes to Happ Controls. Links to Happ Electronics can be left or updated, but don't automatically change I believe.

Move work for all members, but it just redirect, not move it completly.

But it dosen't delete the old link, so it still shown double in the all_article page (Im tried to delete to move Arcade Music Box 2 to Z_DELETE_001, but it just got redirected instead  :().

I would still remove all double pages, so they dosen't show on the all_pages link. I may even remove that link on the main page.

A Tag to get hidden from the all page would also been fine, like {NotOnAllPage}.
