Title: LED Christmas lights?, I hope this doesn't seem too lame.
Post by: struby on March 30, 2006, 07:10:21 pm
Are they bright enough to be a cheap easy alternative way to hook up leds?

And under the ones with shaped coverings, are the coverings removable and do they have a regular led bulb under?

Like these for instance?:

As far as I have been able to determine the LEDs are molded into the bulb shape and are one piece.  This makes them weather proof as xmas lights should be.   Brightness depends on the specific string overall not very bright compared to bright single LEDs.

I looked at some at Target last December when they had all their Xmas stuff out.  They had some without the plastic cover on them (ie. they looked like a standard small LED), but they just didn't seem very bright.

I have a set similar to these that I picked up last Christmas to string into a 3 foot wide wreath.

The plastic bulbs could be removed I guess...at least on the units I have.

They seem as bright as most normal LEDs I have played with but probably would not compare to superbrights.

alrighty thanks, there is a set of 100 on ebay that don't seem to have covers, I could try that with 2 in each button or something.

edit:  they have points on them I think, but they seem better than my first link, and also, they are the kind you can make blink and fade and stuff.
