Title: Frontend that plays game videos while searching games...
Post by: Sinner on March 30, 2006, 11:56:05 am
Does anyone know of a frontend that will play the game videos while you are going through the game list?

For example, if I scroll through my game list, and I stop on 1942...the video of the game playing would start, and play until I scroll to another and stop...or something to this effect...

Thanks,

Matt

AtomicFE does that.

But almost all does too.

Yep, AtomicFE and GameEx both do that.

Add mamewah to that list as well.

They don't just start playing the game on their own, in a window, but most currently updated frontends will start a video playing when you stop on a game, you hit a key to launch it to play the actual game.

From the wiki (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends):

AdvanceMenu
ArcadEpic
Atomic
GameEx
MaLa
MAMEWah
Ultrastyle

Possibly others, such as Dragon King, 3DArcade, Kymaera, but I don't know for sure.

They I can confirm they ALL do.  It's one of the earliest "special" features of windows front ends.

Now as for the video continuing to play while you are scrolling the answer is a big fat no in most cases.  (I think you guys misssed that part of the question).  I mean no disrespect what-so-ever, but imho having the video for the wrong game playing is just bad coding practice, not a "feature".  The videos should stop while scrolling or dynamically change, but seeing how that's nearly impossible at a decent speed they should stop.

Atomic can do that only with scripted layout for now. this feature is not very accessible for newbie yet.

The videos stopping would be OK too...I'm a MAMEWah user, and I've been trying to figure out how it works, but I can't get it to do what I want...is there a tutorial somewhere?  Maybe a help file??
Thanks.
